FrazMacK Posted March 14, 2004 Posted March 14, 2004 Have a problem fitting the last two studs for my hood! Have drilled the hole to large and the peel rivits do not tighten up as they should. Need to fill the hole and start again! Only thing is the new hole will have to be in the same place. What can I use to fill the hole that will allow me to drill it again? Next Question Does anyone else have a problem with their exhaust vibrating against the bracket on the car? What is the best way to adjust it? Thanks!!! Quote
jeff oakley Posted March 14, 2004 Posted March 14, 2004 if you can get to the back of the hole the easiest cure is to us a normal rivet but put a small washer on the back first. This will then tighten up fully and hold the stud base in place. Short of that you would need to fill with resin and once cured re drill. HTH Jeff Quote
pistonbroke Posted March 15, 2004 Posted March 15, 2004 How big is the hole? If it is too big for the rivet head you will have to fill and re drill the hole. IMO epoxy filler paste is better used than polyester resin.its tougher and mechanically stronger. Otherwise I think the hole for the rivets used are 4mm you could use a 4mm nut and a countersunk machine screw,if you can get to the rear , or as said previous stick a washer there , nothing to stop you using both washer and filler. hope this helps Quote
steppenwolf Posted March 15, 2004 Posted March 15, 2004 The hole size should be 3.3mm and the solutions above are fine. If you do not fancy filling and re-drilling and you are worried about a standard rivet/washer stressing the glass fibre, you could try a countersunk 4mm stainless steel bolt, washer and nyloc nut ( will hold tight without the risk of over-tightening ) provided you have access to the inside surface.
