IWatkins Posted March 13, 2004 Posted March 13, 2004 Hi All, Just joined after spending ages with the search engine and reading through the past few months worth of posts. I'm looking to buy my first Westfield, so I am doing all the research, trying to find what to buy and what not to buy. I've been saving for over a year now after having had enough of the Jap turbo/4WD scene. Or "grown up" as the missus puts it, well, before I told her I was looking for a Westfield I'm not too hot with the spanners, and don't have much free time. However, I would expect to use the car I bought almost everyday. I've been digging through all the sites, reading build diaries and have decided that I think for my first one I'll buy a road going one rather than a kit or half built car. So, I've seen SEi and SEiW cars. I understand the SEiW is a widebody as is all the more recent Westfields. However, what I can't find is what that actually means. I have learned that the cockpit is bigger, i.e. more elbow room, but does it also mean the actual car is bigger, more engine bay space, total length etc. ? I'm off to the Stafford Show tomorrow to have a look around and see what I'm letting myself in for. In addition, I've been looking at all the websites I can find but there really don't seem to be that many cars for sale in my price range (£7-8k), is this normal or is it seasonal ? Cheers Ian Quote
stu999 Posted March 13, 2004 Posted March 13, 2004 Welcome Ian. Just to answer a few of your Q's, in no real order..... You are right in saying that the SEiW's are the wider version, which does indeed add to the cockpit space, not only are they wider, but a tad longer too. It does make a difference to the car's overall size, but to the casual observer, it is easily missed. Too make things a little more confusing, most of the Latest Westy's are designated SEi, even though they are widebody. There was a thread on this fairly recently, suggesting that this is because the 'narrow' body isnt actually available as an option any more. The price range you quote should find you a widebody version, but it does limited the availability somewhat. Keep 'em peeled, they are out there. Good luck, and I might see you tomorrow.... Quote
neilwillis Posted March 13, 2004 Posted March 13, 2004 I will be at the Stafford show tomorrow Ian, I built mine in 2003, so I should be able to help with any queries you may have. My car will be there (weather permitting), so you can have a nosey too. We will have a parking area, which will be marked with a couple of flags, so you should find us OK. Neil Quote
