Rear calipers

Tried doing a serach but couldn't tell me what I need to know.

Rear calipers. I know these should these be XR41, XR4x4 , Granada but does that also include Cosworth 4x4 rear calipers. Are XR4i calipers solid disk and cosworth 4x4 ones vented disks?

Friend of friend is selling some and need to know if they would work.

Cheers All.

Probably yes, but apparently the vented disks weigh more and offer little extra performance.  Stick with solid rears and some fancy drilled disks, like the ones on Fluke Motorsport.

The calipers are the same, no matter what disc was fitted to the donor car, so calipers that previously clamped a Cosworth rear end will be fine, as far as I recall......

You sure? i thought xr4x4 had 253mm solid discs (10mm thick) and the cossie had 273mm discs, 2wd being unvented 10mm thick, and the 4x4 cossies being 24mm thick vented.  Does the extra diameter make much difference to the caliper and are the mounting brackets the same - cos the cosworth fronts don't fit on standard sierra hubs, i don't know about the rear though.

No, not 100% sure, but the last time I saw an Escort Cossie rear end, I sem to recall it had the same calipers clamping vented discs.

Best way to tell would be to have a look in a Cossie Haynes manual. I have a Cossie 2WD workshop manual, just not here. Again, I seem to recall the brake calipers being identical. Sadly, I won't be able to confirm this until next weekend, so hopefully, someone else will be able to say for sure.....

It seems that your right, according to my copy of the technicians info (my workshop manual doesn't compare the cossie with the Xr4x4 - but this does) all components are carried over from the Xr4x4 except rear brake pads and discs (and various other bits).  So it appears that sierra Xr4x4 calipers should be the same, but i would expect the rear bearing carriers to be different.  it doesn't say that the bearing carriers are different though, so I'm not sure how the extra diameter of the cossie rear discs is accomodated by the standard caliper and mount (bearing carrier).

I would have thought the escort cossie is completely differnt, but i've been wrong before :D:D:D

Sorry for any confusion :p
