I commented on the Argus webpage about my disappointment and at least a dozen or more agreed: Quote I have been to the Speed Trials man and boy since the 1950s and it thrived for years acquiring a modest spirit of the Monaco Grand Prix - as much a social event as motorsport. But then Brighton was an elegant town with a Riviera atmosphere which made it stand out from the run-of-the-mill seaside towns of England. Now it is a pale shadow of its former self rather like a favourite aunt who was once a slightly eccentric lady with a Bohemian slant but is now a sad old bag lady smelling of suspiciously strange medication and stale urine. It breaks my heart that political zealots have predominated over the more responsible councils and other leaders of yore. The loss of the Speed Trials is no surprise to anyone who has followed the decline of the host city where rats run in the streets in daylight and dog faeces litter the pavements. jeff oakley Posted January 26 Share Posted January 26 The council could have stepped in to help but when it was run by the Green Party they tried to get it stopped several times. in 2014 there was a huge petition to keep it going and the council narrowly voted to let it continue but failed to invest in Madeira Drive and insisted on ever more insurance restrictions. This event brought in thousands each year for local hotels and vendors but I understand if the club is running it at a loss they have no alternative. Man On The Clapham Omnibus Posted January 26 Author Share Posted January 26 Someone on Pistonheads mentioned that BHMC run events at Goodwood already, and they suggested that perhaps the Good Lord March will consider accommodating it there if a suitable stretch of track is available. It then occurred to me that in tone and spirit it is more closely aligned with the Revival than any 21st century motorsport and that perhaps it could be somehow associated with the wonderful weekend of that meeting. jeff oakley Posted January 26 Share Posted January 26 I go to the revival and when you look at how long you can be there and what you can see I feel it is not bad value if compared against a theatre show of football match. all events are a big issue where people attend insurance wise but there is a bigger issue for car events. i was reading that MG live has been cancelled as well. The thread has brought up the thorny issue of paying to attend. We have the same with our shows where drivers feel no need to pay as they are the show and organisers should be grateful they turn up. well the writing is on the wall organising groups or businesses will not do it for free or at a loss, so what is better pay a small amount and have something to go to? We have to change like the NorthWest Kitcar event at Santa Pod organise a show tacked on to Fast Ford day which seems to work. i don’t have all the answers but support local events and club circuits as much as you can. At Castle Combe they have a joint Steam Fair and car show with a wide amount of exhibits it works well We will see more things cancelled if we are not lucky Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I have been three times and the only negative comment I have is that post Shoreham the aircraft aspect is not as good as it was, but that's not Goodwood's fault.
