First thing, he needs to make sure he can register it for the road. Cars without CoC are very difficult to register in EU. As example, that car won't be possible to register in Italy.

This is true if the car is from the UK, while if the car has already been registered in the EU (years ago when rules were more relaxed) then it doesn't really matter.

Another example, in France only cars older than 30 years can be registered, taking advantage of the historic registration.

Just what  Alessandro said above; if the Netherlands requires a CoC for an older car then he's pretty much out of luck. CoC's were never routinely supplied with UK factory built cars in that time frame. Whilst it's not beyond the realms of possibility one or two were sold with them at the buyers request, TBH, it's pretty unlikely - the factory at the time would have generally said no, if it's going to Europe you'll need to buy in Europe from one of the distributors, or buy a Euro spec Sport Turbo direct from them. (My understanding at the time was that even UK Sport Turbos weren't fullu Euro spec and didn't come with CoC).

Many over the years have come on here asking about obtaining a CoC from the old factory for an existing car. I don't off the top of myhead recall anyone coming back to the forum saying they'd been successful.  I suspect the new factory, from what others have said re getting paperwork for the UK IVA on older models, pre the insolvency, have the records to issue any documentation for pre factory re-opening cars. Sorry.

There used to be someone in the Netherlands I thought, even if not a full distributor. There is also a distributor in France and one in Germany that might be able to assist, should the Netherlands requirements be similar to either of those countries.

  • Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman changed the title to Buying guide - exporting to the Netherlands

- I've just edited the title slightly, just in case it helps get the attention of any of our members in the Netherlands, or at least with knowledge of the requirements.
