Apple MacBook Pro problem

Recommended Posts

For last 2 days I keep getting a message about every 10 mins saying

Browser is infected

Attention Viruses Detected

I do not use any virus checker and have been ok for last 5 or 6 years

If I click scan it comes up with finding some viruses but says my McAffee subscription has just expired but I am not sure I ever had one on this laptop

Is it a scam or do I need to do something?

That looks fishy to me. It 'appears' to be the standard apple Iphone/Ipad settings cog- I've not seen alerts like that on my phone or Ipad.

I could be easy to spoof the image to get you to click on it.

I don't have a Macbook though. @Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman / @Kingster both use them though?  Any thoughts gents?

Don’t run anything!

Doesn’t look like a genuine Apple system alert.

Research required…

No idea I’m afraid. Use another device to search for answers via google (is what I would do).

Never had a virus on a Mac in well over 30 years of using them!

There is a very good app for Macs called 'CleanMyMac' available in the app store. I would never bother with any other virus software on a Mac. I've used it on all of mine for the last 10 years or so.

I use both Clean my Mac for general clean up and maintenance and Bit Defender for AV protection on my old Mac Book Pro. I've ALWAYS had AV software on there - back in my IT support days a decade or so ago, we did see a period where MAC's did start to be targeted by malicious software quite badly.

  • 2 weeks later...

Last one of these I got ended up being a bl**** cookie that was installed by a web page whilst looking for Assetto Corsa cars to drive.

Took me a restore point reset to realise it though 'cos it was still present after a system restore roll back :bangshead:

Cleared all the browser cookies and problem solved, so that's one for the memory banks...
