Apple MacBook Pro problem

For last 2 days I keep getting a message about every 10 mins saying

Browser is infected

Attention Viruses Detected

 

I do not use any virus checker and have been ok for last 5 or 6 years

If I click scan it comes up with finding some viruses but says my McAffee subscription has just expired but I am not sure I ever had one on this laptop

Is it a scam or do I need to do something?

Can you put up a screen shot of the pop up you're getting? It is when you browse the web? I assume you're using Safari as your web browser?
