New member, new car, new issues!

Welcome to a fellow 250 owner, hope you get as much enjoyment from owning one as I have.

As others have said check speed sensor on front offside wheel. Shout if you’re unsure where/what this is.

From memory mine is set ~ 1.5mm clearance to disc bolt heads, but do spin the wheel to make sure it clears all 4 bolts!

The Aim Strada dash can be configured in various ways by downloading Aim “Race Studio3” software, if you haven’t already done so :(https://www.aim-sportline.com/en/sw-fw-download.htm) onto a PC/laptop.

It is fairly intuitive to use once you get the hang of it (albeit I found it daunting at first but I’m an old dinosaur who struggles with computer tech!)

Would happily send you my “configuration file” for the dash, but suspect your dash will be an updated version. Tried several times to export mine onto updated versions, with no joy but happy to send it on if it would help?

I would be completely lost if I had to download files or connect a laptop! The sensor appears to be situated correctly. I am at a loss!

Does the pickup sensor have a detection LED? If so, you should it illuminate when passing the ferrous object (what ever your pick up is - Back of wheel studs perhaps?)

Yes the sensor has a detection LED, and yes it does light up.

Well that would at least suggest the sensor is ok then. Are you able to measure the gap between the sensor head and back of the wheel stud with feeler gauges or similar?

Is the sensor mounted on the front wheels or the back wheels?

The sensor is <1mm from the bolt heads on the front wheel hub and illuminates once a bolt head is passing it.

I had a similar issue with my speed sensor after removing it to change my front wheel studs. The sensor was too far away from the bolt heads being used to calculate my speed, I moved it to 1.0-1.5mm clearance & it all started working again.

 

I have a Race Technology Dash 2 Pro not an AIM dash.

I fully understand your concerns, I felt the same initially when I built mine, but concluded only option was to have a go!

Respectfully suggest you give it a go, or failing that try and find somebody in your neck of the woods who can help (I find the grandchildren a great help with all things computersI).

 

You can connect laptop to dash via a loose cable which hopefully came with your car. If not sure one can be purchased.

 

If you brave it and install Race Studio on a laptop, you can “play” to your hearts content without connecting to the dash in your car.

Not sure, but would think you could also connect to your dash and “suck” a copy of the config file currently installed on your dash onto Race Studio on your laptop.


You’re the opposite end of the country to me and I’m no expert, but happy to try and help remotely if I can.

Hello! Another Sport 250 owner here.

 

If the speed sensor is correctly positioned and seems to be working, suspect it's the dash which isn't configured correctly. Happy to help you try and get it sorted - downloading Race Studio is the first step. If you can then plug into the dash, download the configuration to racestudio, and take some screenshots to show us, we can have a look.

 

I realise that it's pretty intimidating, but it's not as scary as it sounds!

The sensor is working, at least at the sensor end, so it has power and ground.

 

(it's less than a mm from it's targets and the internal LED is correctly triggering, to say it's reading the bolt heads. The precise distance may/may not need tweaking, but for the moment, the fault is elsewhere.)

 

Unfortunately, the next steps do need the software and a laptop, to connect to the dash, so that the dash config can be checked, and also to check that the dash is receiving the signal from the sensor.

 

The software can be downloaded here: Race Studio 3 x64 download (note, you'll need a 64 bit laptop, so not something too ancient!!)

 

You will also need a USB lead, with the right form of connection for your laptop - typically a type A or C plug, and mini B at the AiM dash end.

 

I've seen some of the Sport 250's with weird and wonderful wheel trigger settings on the dash, some of them even ex-factory.

Hi David. Many thanks for your input. As the car goes and stops, I think I’ll defer touching the dash programming, until I find someone who is hands on with these things and who can show me how to sort it. Gives me an excuse to take the car somewhere too!

A quick update. With thanks to AIMS Technologies I now have fully working dash 🤞 The gentleman there (Kevin?) was a great help, he remotely connected, updated my dash software, pointed me in the direction of a poorly connected wire, once made good then normal service resumed. Top service!

 

A big thanks to everyone who offered advice. Much appreciated!
