geoffd
The time has come to sell my alloy bodied “pre-lit”. I’ve owned it since 2010. The car was first registered 1992, and I’m the fifth owner. It has Escort and Cortina mechanical components. The engine is a 1600 Ford crossflow, over-bored by 30 thou. It has a big valve head – I don’t think the valves can be any bigger. There are twin Dellorto DHLA 45 carburettors. It’s noisy, and it sounds great! It starts well, but doesn’t run at all well. Some fresh petrol may help. The sump is about 2 inches above the ground, and has been bashed many times. I don’t think it leaks. There are other oil leaks, mostly from the rear crankshaft seal. I think this is not unusual. The gearbox is a 4 speed. The back axle leaks slightly, I think from the pinion seal. The alloy tub may come from a Caterham. The front mudguards are also alloy, and were commissioned by a previous owner who replaced the original clamshells. The bonnet is unpainted alloy, and could do with a good polish. Overall, it’s a bit scruffy, but would make a good rolling refreshment project. The MOT runs until 22 August 2024. It was discussed in this thread It’s not ULEZ compliant! This is one of the reasons I’m selling. It is registered as a Caterham – but the insurers don’t mind! The car is in Ruislip, in Middlesex, not far from the end of the M40. And the price - £4000.
