mark coomber
Back in my 20's, I built an SEi (black, flared wings, 2l pinto and chromed everything) Now, in my mid 50's, I am looking to do it again after having hired one for a long-weekend and gotten the bug again! But I was sad to learn that the original Westfield Sportcars company went to the wall not long ago. I now note the new ownership - and new prices ! - and have heard rumours of problems with delivery times. So, that made me think about acquiring a second-hand car and then set about renovating / improving / personalising it. However, I wonder as to the availability of specialist spares originating from the new company ? By that, I mean items specific to the Westfield, eg bodywork, windscreen & uprights, contoured dashboard, exhaust system, suspension components and engine/gearbox mounts for engine/gearbox options that the new company no longer offer. Can anybody enlighten me as to how well, or otherwise, the new owners of Westfield Sportscars are at supplying these types of items ? Many thanks in advance. Ian Kinder (Bagpuss) - Joint Peak District AO
From what I've seen on here, the WCL website is more accurate than the WSC one as far a stock/lead times. Hence many members have received parts next day. As expected more specialist items such as chassis and body work have seen price increases. The business is in a tricky phase, they need to develop purchase history with many suppliers who likely had they fingers burnt when WSC Folded. If buyers are then wary or don't order, it's going to take longer for this process to take place and it will be longer before prices can reduce as volumes increase etc. Have a chat with sales at WCL. I'm sure he'll help find a way to get you back building either a new car or a restoration project and get you enjoying tinkering with a Westfield again.
