Man On The Clapham Omnibus Posted March 10, 2004 Posted March 10, 2004 Had to drive my SEiW Pinto home 5 miles with no clutch cable. Lucky I had practised clutchless gear changing in company cars when I was bored! Quote

Guest Posted March 10, 2004 Posted March 10, 2004 Seen it on TV and my first hire car in the US gave me an opportunity to have a go - large car park, auto 4ltr V8 flat out in reverse, flick it round and at the same time change from reverse into drive without lifting the throttle. Worked a treat but I returned the car early as there were funny noises coming from the transmission! Oh, and I only managed to catch it after the first complete 360 revolution - you really have to be quick.... Quote
Ian Podmore Posted March 10, 2004 Posted March 10, 2004 red line in 1st then to 2nd and then back to 1st trying to get 3rd Ditto - in one of Subaru UK's fleet demo cars at Millbrook. Oops. Managed to dip clutch again before the rev counter needle bent in two...... (think it got to 7.5k or so) Nothing broken luckily. Quote
neilwillis Posted March 10, 2004 Posted March 10, 2004 My first company car - a Chieftain tank. We were out in Canada on exercise, and had a bridge crossing to demonstrate for the Divisional commander. My tank commander (I was driving at the time) said give it some licks, so I hit the bridge flat out at 25MPH. The tank took off! The general was impressed, but the poor guys that had to fix it weren't quite so impressed Quote
S8ight Posted March 10, 2004 Posted March 10, 2004 mate of mine was out in his mums Citron, passed his test a few weeks before and hes the best driver in the world, you know the score. him driving, me in the front and three other mates in the back. one of the lads in the back shouts him to handbrake the car into the pub car park, im the only one who knows the hand brake is on the front wheeels, did i tell him the three in the back nearly ended up in the front, driver got shoved over the steering wheel and i stayed braced tight in the seat. oh how i laughed !! Dracoro Posted March 10, 2004 Posted March 10, 2004 Behind a MGF at traffic lights, he pulled away, you could hear the revs go up and the clutch slipping all the way to the next traffic lights. I pulled next to him and said his clutch was slipping. He said he was doing it deliberately as it goes too fast if he lets out the clutch all the way Didn't know whether to laugh because of his driving or the phrase 'too fast' and MGF coming together! adhawkins Posted March 10, 2004 Posted March 10, 2004 Ah, the famous MGF toggle switch on the accelerator pedal... Andy Quote
david.c Posted March 10, 2004 Posted March 10, 2004 im the only one who knows the hand brake is on the front wheeels, did i tell him Nice one Seight The company I used to work for had a bl**** horrible old Volvo 240 estate as a pool car, which we all hated, so we came up with the challenge of who would dare to rev the engine the highest. This was an old engine that sounded rough from about 4,000 rpm, so early records were 5,000 , 5,200 , 5,500 and so on. The record had to be set in 2nd gear and witnessed by another colleague..........I eventually won with just shy of 7,000 rpm I have never winced so much David Quote
