Winter Tyres Anyone? NOW SOLD

I have a set of 4 Goodyear Ultragrip winter tyres, size 215/50x17"

These are now surplus to my requirements, following a change of car and they won't fit my new car.

The tyres are fitted to a set of Midland Wheel Supplies alloys. The tyres have loads of tread left.

I had these fitted to my Skoda Octavia Estate during winter months, and they worked brilliantly.

I haven't really thought about price, but they would be very cheap to a club member who was able to collect them, or I'd deliver in the north midlands area. I just want them out of the way as they take up space in my garage.

At the moment, it isn't easy to get them out to photograph or measure the trwead depth because Mrs. H. has stored loads of stuff for overseas charities around them (!!) but that is going in the next few days.

Have you got a idea of price?

I'll give it some thought, and check the tread depth.

Right, I've done a bit of research, and taken some pictures.

First, the tyres: They are Goodyear Ultragrip Performance+ winter tyres, as I said before, size 215/50x17", and I've got 4 of them. Minimum tread depth (ie measured in the middle) is 5mm. on 2, and about 6mm. on the other 2. Not sure how old they are, but I think 3 winters old from memory, and stored in my garage when not on the car.

Now the wheels, should they be of any interest; They were supplied new to me by Wheelbase, and they are MSW (by OZ) 19 in matt Black. The size is 7J rim, obviously 17" diameter, and I think (but I cannot guarantee it) the pcd is 114.3mm. 5 stud/bolt fitting. The offset is ET45.

As to the wheels, I think the pcd of my Octavia Elegance Estate 2ltr. diesel 2015 model was 112mm, however Wheelbase supplied the wheels for the vehicle along with a set of "wobble bolts" which more detchnically are called "pcd adjustment bolts" . These have as best as I can describe it (slightly non-technically) a floating tapered collar which sits in the wheel tapper, and allows a wheel to be fitted to a hub having a fractionally different pcd. I was sceptical as to how well this would work, but Wheelbase assured me that it was fine and safe, and also said if I wasnt happy they would take the wheels back and refund me, so I gave them a try, and I can honestly say that in 8 years use (each winter- I had a different set of tyres before these) they never failed or caused me concern. no vibration nor any sign of a wheel bolt coming loose.

Obviously, whether these wheels will fit your car I cannot advise or accept responsibility.

As to price, the online price for these tyres new looks like about £140 each, so I'd be looking with the wear for £40 each, and I'd throw the wheels in for free as I no longer have any use for them.

that's a very fair price! Especially with free wheels!

With only winter usage and storage in the garage, they'll last many more winters. My Wife's winter tyres are on year 8 and doing fine!

No signs of cracking and they've not gone hard etc.

I may well be interested Stephen - assuming they are still available. I have a 2020 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV and live in the Chilterns so winter tyres are a comfort when beasts from the east turn up! The rolling radius of your tyres is slightly less which would make the speedo read high by c.9% and the offset of 45mm on yours is 7mm more than mine. If spacers would be compatible then I assume that would sort the difference. I am awaiting a pearl of wisdom from Mitsubishi owners. If you sell them before that arrives then c'est la vie:t-up:

BTW, do you know the centre bore diameter please?

The diameter of the centre cap is 61.65mm., but where the wheel locates on the hub (ie under the centre cap) there is a polypropylene insert, which I am reluctant to remove in case I have difficulty getting it back again, which reduces the bore. I cannot measure it accurately because my Vernier gauge won't fit, inside the wheel rim, but judging it by eye I think it would be in the order of about 52mm. internal diameter. I'm guessing that if the pcd is close enough to your hub, but the centre bore is out then Wheelbase could possibly provide inserts to fit the wheel to your hub?

Buyers must be aware that although I will be providing a full set of the "wobble" bolts, there is a limit to what hubs the wheels will fit. Teh pcd has to be within about 2 or 2.5mm one way or the other, otherwise you wont be able to physically get the bolts through the bolt holes in the wheels and screwed into the hub, if you see what I mean.

Wheelbase do have an excellent online table to see which of their wheels will fit which cars. Or you could try ringing them for advice.

That said, my price is really just for the tyres, with the wheels thrown in for free, so a buyer hasn't really got anything to lose provided their existing rims are suitable for the tyres size.

Thank you Stephen. The bore for the Mitsubishi is 67mm so that stymies the whole idea. I was finding that I'd need a set of compatible TPMS sensors to fit too, so what seemed like a good opportunity now has the taint of a burgeoning nightmare! Thank you for your help, I shall gracefully withdraw!

No takers? I'm willing to consider any reasonable offer, or if you really want the tyres, but don't want the wheels then provided the price for the tyres will justify it I'll get the tyres removed from the wheels.

So if you are interested just put a sensible proposition to me.

Only thing is I really don't want the hassle and expense of organising carriage; in fact for a reasonable distance I'd rather jump in my car and deliver myself!
