markhall Posted March 7, 2004 Posted March 7, 2004 Been doing a good few 'practice' miles in my 'busa recently, however the wife's complaining about ear ache (how ironic). Complains that the exhaust is too loud when I boot it (she has a point at ten thousand revs). My options are : 1. Helmet (soon, but for track use) 2. Buy ear plugs/defenders. 3. Leave wife at home. From the above, 3 is the favoured option however this may cause me more grief than it's worth (however I would get a better power to weight ratio.....). Can anyone recommend something to help me and my poor wife (she's got a good excuse now not to put the kettle on as she pretends she hasn't heared me due to failing hearing). Cheers. Quote
CedricTheBrave Posted March 7, 2004 Posted March 7, 2004 You should use some sort of ear protection The wind noise generated at anything above 30mph is enough to make anyone deaf after a while. there are various types of ear plugs but the best is obviously a helmet and that keeps you warm as well. try some ear plugs see how you get on they are not expensive Quote
milky2971 Posted March 7, 2004 Posted March 7, 2004 Hehe I warned you about that rev limiter Ill drop you a trial set o'plugs down for your good woman I called down last Sunday and this afternoon (the sun was out and everything) but you both must have been out playing got caught out in the rain again....(Swansea) got wet ...oh! how we laughed etc all the best speak soon (well eventually anyway) Trev:p Quote
markhall Posted March 7, 2004 Author Posted March 7, 2004 Trev, Yeah - out for a play. Trying to get used to this bl**** clutch!!!! I dropped in last Thursday evening (may have been Wednesday). Catch you soon. Turboblade - thats exactly the way I was thinking in relation to the intercom. The only problem is that the missus will be able to talk to me whilst in the car - this was not one of my requirements LOL (although they have independant volume controls which may be handy...) - what intercom do you use, I was contemplating buying the Sparco lids with built in speakers and 'phone but would be interested in finding out what others have. Thanks Mark Quote
adhawkins Posted March 7, 2004 Posted March 7, 2004 As far as intercoms go, the 'top of the pile' is the Autocom one. They're not cheap though. However, I imagine you get what you pay for, if you go for a cheaper one it might not have the same performance of the Autocom. Andy Quote
neilwillis Posted March 7, 2004 Posted March 7, 2004 Psssst Mb893........ Someone's nicked your gearstick!!!!! Quote
higgsti Posted March 7, 2004 Posted March 7, 2004 i know a few bikers who still wear ear plugs with there helmets for wind noise Quote
Nick M Posted March 8, 2004 Posted March 8, 2004 The best earplugs I've found are the silicone ones that look like three mushrooms stacked one on top of each other. Like in the picture below : They worked well in the Westy and came up trumps today at the drag racing. Quote
S8ight Posted March 8, 2004 Posted March 8, 2004 i know a few bikers who still wear ear plugs with there helmets for wind noise puffs Quote
Blatman Posted March 8, 2004 Posted March 8, 2004 I rarely go out in my Westfield without earplugs....... I can stand being a puff with decent hearing........ If I ever get enough time to myself for a fitting, I'll be getting a set of these. I've already spent more that 45 quid on the yellow foam earplugs, and I'm about to order another job lot, so now may be the time. A friend of mine uses them under his helmet, and reports them to be excellent..... One of the drawbacks of quite a few of the cheap disposable earplugs is IME that it can be difficult to get a helmet on without dislodging the earplug..... Quote
mb893 Posted March 8, 2004 Posted March 8, 2004 what intercom do you use Used a Terratrip jobbie in my last car and in this one... both were/are fine and one of the less expensive makes in the market. The Terratrip head sets are the same as OMP et al, but are less money. Someone's nicked your gearstick!!!!! You know, I was looking at that image and thinking "now what's wrong with this picture?" felters Posted March 8, 2004 Posted March 8, 2004 The wind noise generated at anything above 30mph is enough to make anyone deaf after a while. looks like a result... especially if SWMBO is on board Quote
Nick.Petty Posted March 8, 2004 Posted March 8, 2004 Took my good lady out for an initiation run in the blade ... I was concentrating so hard and the noise was so loud that I neither saw or heard her protesting at the pace we were going. Only realised when she started punching me in the arm..ouch. Still didn't slow down though - she won't ask to come out in it again .......... How was the snow Felters you lucky bleeder??! Quote
felters Posted March 8, 2004 Posted March 8, 2004 Oh the usual... white, cold powdery stuff. I always find topless ski bunnies so distracting though... Quote
