Somerset & Devon meets & events

Stuart Davis AO - Devon Cornwall & Somerset

Recommended Posts

Good evening!

Thank you, Stu @Stuart Davis (fatblokestu) AO- Devon & Somerset, for moving this forward.

Thursdays would be easier for me, but Mondays possible - depending on what time.

I can't commit to being there every month, but would definitely be keen on/off (lots of hobbies as well as a family to keep me entertained).

Very happy to give @evosteve a lift down, unless he's back on the road or prefers his tin top.

It's about 1h for me 1-way, depending on how interesting I make the journey+ how lucky I get with other road users.

Question: what are you proposing on meet-up: oggle each others' cars? Go for a joint loop drive with members peeling off when suits them most?

Food and drink in Tiverton?

To cut to the chase: I prefer the middle option. I'm not averse to food, actually quite the opposite, but I'm in a car club, not cake or coffee club 😉

I’m keen. Will be in the tin top for a bit until she is on the road but hopefully

will catch the last of the summer.

Thursday works for me.

Hi Jens,

I think the challenge for a mid week meet is that it needs to be regular, and we will all have had hour ish drives to get there anyway. I think we should have a first meet, get to know each other and our preferences and then go from there. Car oggling and driving are my preferences too, when the weather allows 👍

Hi Stu

I'm good with that. Whether it'll be on the 30th Sep at Re:fuel or soon thereafter.

Maybe we could suggest a loop to be driven, various stops on the way, and folks to as many legs of the route as suits them. The route could literally loop around/through our catchment area.

This would minimise each member's solo stretch to get to the meeting point.

Does that sound appealing?

I don't mind driving in the wet, but not sure everyone takes their kit car out when it's raining and it's certainly not exactly fun to stop and talk cars while getting a soaking.

Maybe someone knows a farmer with a large barn where we can all convene under a roof, so we're less weather dependent?

I can't think of any pub that offers covered parking - all fuel stations do, but maybe not the most appealing ambience...

Just voicing some thoughts that may or may not be helpful... Happy for them to be discarded.

As another COViD evacuee 😉, I moved down to Crewkerne in Somerset from Walton-on-Thames two years ago (how time flies!) and since re-buying my old SEi a year ago I’ve been enjoying the fine company of the Dorset group meeting in Bridport.

With Sean’s time now taken up with other activities, there is a chance for me to give being AO for Somerset and Devon a go so that we can hopefully get some meets going for those living further West in Devon and also further North in Somerset. It’s a huge area so we may have to be imaginative in terms of meet locations or satellite groups but I’m sure we can work something out.

So first off, please post up here if you are in the Somerset & Devon area and interested in monthly meets, drive-outs or other events and we can go from there. Once I know where everyone is we can start making some plans.

Thanks all 👍

Hi Stu

We are in Taunton and would be interested in monthly meets and other events but can’t commit to attending every event. We are also Covid evacuees having moved down to Taunton from the Isle of Man in January 2022.

if all goes well we would love to join you at Refuel on the 30th September.
