Sadly life is getting in the way and I just don't have the time to enjoy this car any more. I've owned it for 5 years and was originally bought from another member on here.

1992 SE Live axle Narrowbody - 1700cc 711M X-flow with a 4-speed gearbox - £10,000 £8000

I'm well aware that this is a high premium for a 31 year old SE Narrow, however given it's age I suspect that I'll find the car being exported rather than selling within the UK, so I've priced according to the international market :) To be honest, I won't be heart broken if it doesn't sell though.

For the international buyers - The car is still fitted with the same Xflow engine it was registered with in 1992, however it underwent a complete strip down and rebuild in 2020 including a lightened flywheel, new crank, new Kent 244 camshaft, new rods and pistons, new waterpump, new oil pump, complete head rebuild and port/polish etc. Compression approx. 10.8:1 and a full technical breakdown is available that was provided by the machine shop doing the work. I've driven less than 1000 miles since the rebuild.

  • Mileage is currently 16300 miles
  • MOT until 29th April 2024, passed without any advisories this year

Good bits

  • New K&N E-3325 air filters fitted in Feb 2019
  • Carbs rebuilt by Carbcare in April 2020
  • Fitted with electric fuel pump and electronic ignition in April 2020
  • Front radiator and fan replaced with Polo rad and shroud in April 2020 - mounting is secure but not pretty
  • New clutch fitted in April 2020
  • Fitted with Cambridge Motorsport high-torque starter motor
  • Front brakes replaced with new calipers and pads in Apr 2021
  • Rear drum brakes rebuilt with new pistons and fitting kits in Apr 2021
  • New front ball joints and steering track rod ends in Jan 2022
  • Full suspension alignment and corner weighting in February 2022 (technical write-up available)
  • Fitted with rare SE live axle MSA roll bar (original roll bar still available too)
  • Fitted with 205/60R13 wheels with spare wheel available (no spare carrier fitted)
  • Removeable wind deflectors

Bad bits
It's a 31 year old car and far from show-room condition. Worst parts listed below and more details and photos available to an interested buyer:

  • Slight oil leak in the sump gasket and rear diff, not enough to be flagged on the MOT - I just use a drip pan when parked up
  • Bonnet is carbon wrapped after a garage dropped it and I struggled to find a replacement. It's a reasonable job but not perfect. It would benefit from a proper machine polish
  • Chips on both rear wheel arches
  • Marks in the fibreglass on the rear tub from where the spare wheel was fitted
  • Minor crack in front windscreen - not an MOT fail and has been like that since I bought the car
  • Runs hotter than I'd like in middle of summer when sat in traffic (but never overheated). I have a new high performance 11" SPAL to fit, but never got around to it. Finally pulled my finger out to upgrade the wiring and install the much more powerful SPAL :)
  • Full wet weather gear included but doesn't fit well with the roll bar. I've added straps so it fits in an emergency, but I wouldn't recommend driving with it fitted For the first time ever, I went for a drive today with the wet weather gear fitted and it was fine. Drummed against my head a little but didn't fly off or disappear anywhere
  • Boot box was cutdown to fit after the roll bar was fitted. It's very ugly, but functional. Thankfully the bootlid covers it and you don't see my hideous handiwork!

First picture below, but many more available. Registration is Q987 RDM for anyone that wants to look into the history.

Spot on mate - sure it will be snapped up. You cannot match a top spec x-flow for noise IMHO and it compliments the 7 style car really well....

A quick x-flow in a narrow is a pretty good match for a lot more powerful machinery I've found.....and had a lot of fun doing it....

This car was the first ever Westfield I drove more than 20 years ago now, and it was pretty good back then, and it looks like it's had a lot of improvements under your ownership too. As Mighty Mart says you can't beat the sounds of a well sorted crossflow

Good Luck with the sale.

Sort of thread hijack, but relevant I feel....

I posted above that a well sorted x-flow is a pretty good match for more powerful cars.....a trip out over the weekend accompanied by a 420 Caterham gave some very complimentary feedback.....'what the devil have you got in that thing' for example.....!

Just 'cos its old' doesn't mean its not fun and very quick....

Thanks for the vote of confidence 😄 Slow market at the moment I think...

Sun was shining and I had some spare time to give her a wash and take some more pictures :)

I even went for a drive with the wet weather gear attached. I looked like a gymnast getting in and out but the higher roll bar meant the roof cleared my head fine (5' 11") although it did drum a little bit at speed 😄

Took advantage of the rubbish weather (and thus free time) to upgrade the wiring and install the much more powerful SPAL now :)

Final price drop :) If it doesn't sell at the current asking price, I'll keep it until next summer.
