Julie Hall - WSCC AO Representative
Well that was a day! not a dull moment to be had. A great car meet and drive, a breakdown with some hairy driving, a swim and some car maintenance with a hurty finger and some good muck to finish the day. We met only Glynn at Quacker's cafe, thankfully Rob added greatly to the numbers, what would we do without you Rob! Here we are cooking on the terrace at Quacker's cafe. 6 cars including Gary in the MR2, who briefly visited us and much to our delight robbed Rob, you must teach me your technique of getting cash so easily😀 Back at the car park we just had to have a look at the turbo'd XE that Rich and Casey had arrived in. It's their 4th Westfield after previously having 2 Zetec's and a Crossflow engined cars. We were telling Glynn about our new fan and it never ceases to amaze me what information people hold in their head, Glynn knew straight away the CFM of his fan. There was me at Malvern last week googling CFM figures before we made the purchase. It was weirdly quiet at Quackers, this was the car park at 11am, too hot for folks maybe? We took a scenic route up past the Barrel Inn at Bretton, then over surprise view to land at a very quiet Bird cafe, where we carried on cooking in the sun over lunch. Bird cafe car park From here only Glynn, Rich and Casey followed us back on a lovely route to the Cromford traffic lights, where they turned right (don't suppose anyone has any footage of the traction engines we passed?) and we turned left to the Hotel. Just Glen and I went to the New Bath Hotel where a car show was due to start at 4pm. It's a little late for us that have been out all day and with it being so hot I had fetched my swimming cozzie, thought I might cool off while Glen has a pint. All day we had no delays so the fan did not come on but waiting at Cromford lights we were both watching the engine temperature rise, waiting for the new fan that we had bought at Malvern switch on. It sort of did but by the time we got the half mile to the Hotel the engine was too hot for comfort. Off with the bonnet and this - a melted 15 amp fuse It wasn't entirely unexpected, so we waited for the engine to cool and I got my cold water swim, Glen got his cold beer drink The drive home was interesting. A dark coloured car in hot sun, we took a quiet back route so we didn't need to stop and I kept the engine at 2000rpm, about 45 mph, switching the engine off at any slight delay. Phew we made it home, engine temp just under 90 degrees all the way. But it didn't end there, we have the MX5 off the road at the mo, the rear brake pads have worn on the inside, we think due to using cruise control. We picked some new pads up yesterday late afternoon and were planning on doing them next week. We are out for the day tomorrow and were going to go in the Westfield, desperate not to have to go in the van, we knuckled down in the direct sun and changed the pads on the MX5. Not a long job, or difficult but could have done without it today but tomorrow is saved. Our resident club cat @Ian Kinder (Bagpuss) - Joint Peak District AO is being his usual amazing self and helping us to prevent a recurrence, it looks like we are getting a relay and some 20 amp wire BUT it has transpired that for some reason also the fan is catching on the radiator. A job for Tuesday. Thanks everyone for a great day, it's been fun in every sense, see you next time XXXX 6

Labrat
Sorry I didn't make in the end. It would have been a lovely day for a drive but hot grumpy kids and a fretting wife (going away with work for a week) meant it wasn't to be Still I now have brownie points in hand for a future event. Every cloud, etc...
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman
Sorry, couldn't make today, but only had this weekend and next before another x thousand mile road trip through Europe happens, so spare time was assigned to car fettling. (OK, today was partly securing the silencer, hopefully, to avoid blowing it off in another Austrian tunnel!!) 1
ianali
That sounds like a busy day. Ali and me are taking things more sedately drifting down the Thames. Missing the car but can’t be everywhere. 3
Rob Hunter - Club Secretary
Brilliant day out today, but must admit to feeling like a boil in the bag MRE when I got home 😂 I'd brought along my neighbours son for a ride out, he's a massive motorsport fan (and decent in a kart) so jumps at the chance of a ride in the westie. The day started in the usual way for me, meeting strange men in a car park.... luckily it was just Ben and Gary so after a quick chat we headed north 😂 Gary had wimped out and brought his MR2 rather than the MEV Rocket. The MR2 is actually quite a quick motor for a hairdressers car (we're sure it has Wham! on repeat on the stereo 😂) due to having the 190bhp T-Sport engine transplant and kept up surprisingly well. We then picked up Rich and Casey at the Co-op in Wirksworth on the way through. I'd got chatting to Rich at Curborough a few weeks ago and had invited him along to try the WSCC lifestyle... despite this being his 4th Westfield he'd never joined the Club, hopefully we have convinced him 👍 It was that warm at Quackers, everyone was getting their tops off 😂 Rich's car is quite a quick beast, with a 260bhp turbocharged XE and was keeping up with my Honda and Ben's R1 MNR quite nicely, it's certainly got a load of mid range punch! After brekkie and a chat, we headed on a @Julie Hall - WSCC AO Representative magical mystery tour to the Bird Cafe for lunch. Suitably refuelled, we headed home down the B roads of Derbyshire. We despatched a load of Sunday afternoon dawdlers and bikers, making brisk progress before we caught a modified M140i on one of my favourite roads. The guy obviously saw us coming and so we had a few minutes of twisties fun before he realised the futility of it all... we scooted passed him and disappeared in the distance! No doubt he'll be going back for a new remap quite soon 😂 2

Much loved around these parts.
Julie Hall - WSCC AO Representative
MRE, some sort of 'meal ready to eat' 'military rations to eat' every day is a school day and after the 'scotch locks' earlier on today my brain is squeaking 🫠 @Rob Hunter Derby & Notts AO . New Bath Hotel car show update - the guy called Rob in the Atom came, with another guy in an Atom just after we had left. I will get my Westfield/Atom gathering one day. Date for diary - 9th July 4pm New Bath Hotel car show, let's meet the Atoms. Thanks @Glynn Walters for your photo's, traction engines are lovely but I was glad they had stopped.
