john777
10 weeks ago I sold a car that I had just taxed, C. £250. Received the acknowledgement that I was no longer the keeper 9 weeks ago. Never had the refund so last week I filled out the online enquiry form, now had a reply saying they will pass my query on to the refunds department which may take up to 6 weeks! Not impressed. Captain Colonial
Hopefully it will be a lot less than 6 weeks, which it frequently is. 6 weeks is kind of a default time period so that if it does take 6 weeks you’re not incensed, and if it takes 2 weeks you’re pleasantly surprised. Same as passports, driving licenses, etc.
Blatman
Agree with Scott. They do give long lead times but it is usually quicker.
Mark (smokey mow)
I did one last month and the refund came within 7 days. I think the issue might be if you've just taxed it and then sold/sorn'd within a short period of time. I had similar selling my Westfield 3 years ago where I taxed it for the test drive and then did the sale/change of owner within 24 hours. I don't think their system was able to compute the short timeframe and in the end I raised a complaint, attaching copies of the RFL receipt and the confirmation of keeper change for the following day before I finally got the refund. To compound the issue this all happened in the middle of Covid when the DVLA were at their worst and it took over 9months to resolve.
