Checks when buying - anyone got VX engine bay pic

Anyone got a pic of a Vauxhall VX 2.0L engine in a Westie (i.e. pic of engine in engine bay).

Also, are there any specific checks to do when buying a westie? I know enough to check for oil leaks, exhaust etc. Any more suggestions?

Hpi done and I know all about checking the V5 etc.

Most of the rules that apply to any other car, apply to a Westy.  Specific things to look at are the condition of the chassis and GRP.  GRP is not easy to fix problems with so make sure it looks to be quite tidy.  The chassis shouldn't be displaying any serious rust or signs of repair.  Luckily this is quite easy to check as you'll be able to see most of it under the bonnet and under the rear.

You need to get a feel for how the car has been built and maintained.  Build quality shows up in things like the wiring.  My last car used all red wires under the dash for example, which was a nightmare to trace faults with and to me suggested corners had been cut with the build.  Have a look under the dash at the wiring to get a feel for it.

Other than that, check the engine is showing good oil pressure.  See how the owners treats the car, does he allow the oil and water to warm properly before giving it some beans.  The usual stuff really.

One other thing, if its a live axle, check the rear arm mounts for wear as they're a weak point and not that easy to sort out.

Hope that helps, I should probably do some work now.
