How long is too long?

Brought some bits advertised in the for sale section on here. What’s considered a reasonable time to wait for delivery/notification that parts have been sent?

We expect all members, whether buyers or sellers to communicate efficiently on such matters. Poor comms, isn't excusable in the modern world. e.g. Don't put something up for sale and then go on a submarine tour for a month to surface to missed calls/angry e-mails etc.

It sounds like you've paid for some items. Has the seller advised when you'd have them? when was their last comms with you? Have they been on the forum recently? Have they advised a reason for delay? Do you have a phone number for them? Are they answering?

I've had plenty of great selling and buying experiences will members on here. It's a shame a few seem to not behave as expected.

Please send me a PM if you wish to discuss further in private and we'll see what can be done etc.

In my experience everyone is different.

I always try to get stuff posted off the following day but that’s not always possible as my village post office is only open one day a week. On bigger stuff I might need to visit the garden centre to pick up a suitable box and I frequently run out of parcel tape.

what I do however try to do is communicate and let a buyer know if it might be a few days wait to send and I do let them know once it’s been posted.

Don’t forget the post office strikes and even with Evri/Hermes I’ve been waiting 10 days now for an Amazon order.

That's usually just a full mail box that's never been emptied, (or very infrequently, at least), rather than anything sinister.

My personal take on sales as both a buyer and a seller, is that I will try and answer as quickly as possible to any messages, if I'm selling, then I will keep a particularly close eye out for incoming PM's etc, but worst case I'd reply in a day. Even in a genuine emergency, I'd normally respond in 48 hrs, at least.

In terms of shipping; then it can be a bit more variable, depending on parcel size and when I can get it dropped off. I normally will try and send up to the end of the next day after receiving payment. However, it does happen that sometimes, by the time something has sold, I have more limited opportunities to post the item, so it can be the end of the week on occasion. In all cases though, I keep the buyer aware of what's happening.

And that's more or less how I'd expect to be treated as a buyer.

Communication is the key here. Sometimes, adverts can run for weeks and even months. Sometimes making it impossible to predict where and what you may be doing as a seller, or your availability. However, as soon as someone has successfully made contact, there is no excuse for replying and then ghosting them. If A sale comes in and you know you're actually away from home for six weeks or whatever, TELL the potential buyer, give them the choice, wait, or look for something else.

It's not rocket science, and frankly it always amazes me that some people seem to need it explaining.

If it’s the item you bought on the 23rd then the sellers membership status is showing as lapsed (sorn).

which means the seller can't answer PM's. A member of the team is advising the seller of the need to contact @ianali
