Ralph & Julie Atkins
We have a lovely Westfield SEiW 2010 - had her about 12 months now and enjoy every minute of dry weather. We are looking for some new wiper blades only, the rest of the wiper is on great condition - just wondered if you could point us in a direction. Thank you in advance Ralph & Julie Atkins
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman
Welcome, While you can buy the actual wiper blades used as standard, they're not the best solution, they're also usually mail order. However, with the tiniest of modifications, the universal blades, sold by Halfords et al fit. They're a much better quality blade too, hang on a mo and I'll take a photo of what needs to be done! Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman
You want the universal refills with the bayonet style metal clip on the end to secure them into the bade holder on the wiper arm. They will be much longer than needed, but can just be cut down to match the old ones. (In fact, many of us manage to get two blades out of one refill! The blade itself is a direct fit in the end of the blade holder Westfield uses, but as standard, the bayonet clip doesn't quite fit right! Here's a view of the clip fully home in the end of the holder And from the side, As you can see above, there are little triangular wedge shaped blades on the clip, that pop out when the clip is pushed home, to secure the blade in place. As standard, the metal part of the holder, arrowed in orange below, is just a mm or two, to long to let the prongs of the clip slay out and lock. All you have to do is file the metal of the blade holder down a little bit shorter, either side, where I've indicated in green below, just enough for the clip to lock in and hold. (it's a five minute job.) Once this has been done, that's it, (universal) standard refills, cut to length can be bought anywhere, as needed.
Pco
I can also really recommend putting rainx on your screen will make the world of difference and will also last. I find will rainx applied I usually and better off not using wipers unless the heavens are completely open
