Steering Column Outer

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am trying to fit a Go-Race QR column to my early SEW chassis with the bolt in Allegro outer column, however it has a 1mm narrower pinch point at the lower end stopping the new column from dropping through. Almost like a thin waist band (see pic).

Before I look at modifying the new column, would anyone have a later column outer which I assume must be a uniform diameter all the way through, as I have seen plenty fit these Go-Race columns.

Thanks

Simon

Would it be easier to just get someone to weld on the end piece then rather than replace the column?

I did that and it only cost a tenner from a welder to do.

Of course that is an option but I have bought the column now, so looking to see if anyone has an outer tube  "under their bench" before I consider alternatives.

Thanks

Of course it is. Didn't mean to tell you to stuck eggs. I'd want it to fit too but the go race adapter is only£40 odd quid if I remember correctly. You could end up paying someone that much or more to machine your current housing.

Some times is better to cut your losses than bodge something that won't fit.. hard lesson I've learnt for my stubborness 🤣

Just a bump for this, incase anyone has one (column upper tube) under the bench, before I take more drastic (and probabaly expensive) action 😆
