Tucka
I'm looking for trailer hire in the Wolverhampton area. I need to move a part built fully rolling Westfield about a mile. Anyone got any recommendations? Cheers Tom
James Lovell
Indespension halesowen, a Westfield will look lost as they only have a 16ft trailer so be warned you need something with a bit of poke but it's not crazy money per day and about £110 for a weekend
Tucka
Thanks. I was hoping for something a bit closer but worth seeing what they have.
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman
I’ve ended up using the big three axle trailers before now. Quite apart from how comically small a Westfield looks on them, one thing you do really have to watch for is the track width for the ramps. I was lucky I was only going a short way when I used one, as the Westfields wheels were actually part resting on the inner edge fences of the trailers ramps! Tucka
Thanks, I'll make sure to take measurements first. I've never had to use a trailer before so all advice is useful.

You need to keep a very careful eye on trailer weights and the combined weights, if you're using a regular car or medium SUV to tow. Some of the bigger trailers can easily take a fair portion of your towing limit up, before you even add the weight of the Westfield on top! (I'm lucky, my pickup is rated up to a 3.5 tonne braked trailer & load.)
Tucka
That's a good point. I'm using my father in law's Mondeo so I'll get this checked. I might have to consider looking for transport service and compare costs.
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman
It's easy to get caught out with last minute changes of trailer at hire places. Though to be fair to the one I used, he checked what the tow "car" was first, or he wouldn't have offered me the monster!
Tucka
Based on what you said earlier I think I'll need to get a smaller trailer so if I do go the hire route then I'll make sure to give them our maximum limits. It's amazing what you have to think about for what seems a relatively easy task. You can't beat experience.
Rusty Nuts
If it's about just a mile I'd be tempted to push it as long as your not going up any high hills. I've used recovery trucks in the past. My son used a chap to move a 190E from near London to Birmingham for approx £100, this was a a few years ago though, prices have probably gone up since. I can share the number of the chap he used (Birmingham based) if you want to go down this route. A quick google search brought up this company linky
Tucka
Thanks. I've popped the details in, let's see what we get. I also noticed a couple of recovery vehicles parked at a company nearby, might be worth a try. I think getting someone to do it is going to be the safest route, Dave gave some good advice and it just seems the easiest way to go.
KevanP
Hook up with a friendly member of your local Westfield area, must be someone with a trailer you could borrow?
