50L air compressor advice for home use.

Recommended Posts

I'm looking to finally buy myself a compressor (wanted one for years) to use in the garage amongst other places. I originally had looked at 24L ones but the cost increase between a 24L and 50L is small enough to justify (I feel) going for the 50L one.

Just trying to get any advice on any recommended brands/types.

I did a quick search online and the ones from SGS seems to get good reviews. This one looks good to me.

Any pointers with regards to belt vs direct drives? pros and cons.

Thanks in advance.

I don't know if the product is any good but from personal experience SGS customer service is absolutely diabolical. I'll never go near them again.

Thanks. For what reason do you suggest it?

Noise loud Vs quiet.😊

Thanks. Seems like all of the ones I've looked at are direct drive. I see belt driven ones but they're out of my price range. I'm not too bothered about the noise level to be honest.

For what reason did you need customer service? Problems with the product?

If your not bothered about noise your ok,but the difference is like night and day.

Given the options it doesn't look like I have much of a choice really. Sure if I could get a 50L one (belt driven) and it was the same price as a direct drive then I would of course choose the belt driven one if it was quieter.

So can anyone either recommend or not any particular brands?

Are the brands like Clarke, Sealey, Draper better than the brands I've never heard of (many say online that a lot of them are generic ones made in China with small subtle differences but are all very similar).

Sealey is a top brand.

I have seen lots on Facebook market place (belt drive).

But never followed them up to be honest.

Personally this is what I'd get if I was to buy now.

More money but worth it.

I orderd an engine crane/host from them came no problem.

Thanks for the link but unfortunately that's well out of my price range. I'm looking at circa £220.

Something like this https://workshopping.co.uk/air-compressors/direct-drive-air-compressors/sealey-sac5020a-air-compressor-50l-direct-drive-2hp
