Terry Everall
Looks like the next available trackday for WSCC is 5th Nov 2023. Is this too late in the season ? Cost around £100 per person

I'd expect a load of cars would be on SORN so would probably be difficult to get the numbers. Thanks for checking though, much appreciated 👍

Mole
the only other alternative is to get a group booking (and discount) on a Javelin day.... maybe in september when its less busy and less hot!!
Jenko
Back to the OP.......Just FYI....Possibly too much of a trek, but Abingdon track run by Motorsports events is a really good 'beginner friendly track, and they are very good with the rules and stopping idiots. They normally run it on a friday. It's quite a short track, and not high speed, and in most places lots of run off as its an airfield.
Dommo
Can confirm, I've visited most of those run off places over the years!
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman
On 01/02/2023 at 14:22, stephenh said: David, I don't think that Blyton is going to happen this year, unfortunately. In fact, I think that Terry did post about this a while ago. It isn't financially viable, because the support both from our Club members, and other invited clubs, has been falling for several years so that the weekend has been running at a loss, increasing year by year. Just to re-fresh this, as the Blyton track day has been mentioned a few times recently. As a Club, we would love to do this, as we have before. However, Stephen has hit the nail on the head; for I suspect, a variety of reasons, it has become very, very difficult to maintain over recent years. We do seem to have just about scraped through by the skin of our teeth the last few times, but barely. The typical situation has been lots of initial enthusiasm, followed by a few people signing up well in advance, a few more a month or so out, followed by weeks of tumbleweed drifting through the sign up pages, and frantic work by those organising the Blyton SS Weekend, who are already extremely busy with the Speed event, trying to shore the numbers up. It's often only been in the last days before the event that enough extra people have signed on to allow it to at least cover itself. It's certainly not off the table, but may need a bit more of a re-think, in order to continue. I agree though, days like Blyton and Abingdon etc are great for beginners, thanks to the increased run off areas, which are often concrete or tarmac, rather than just grass or gravel as with the big circuits. I'd also note that in the past, we have had a (none committee, so you can relax!) Club Officer, who acted as the track day guru/liaison. Helping to promote, publicise and coordinate with members, events that groups of us wanted to attend. That role is sort of open now, as the previous incumbent is focusing on other motorsports events. Having a member willing to step forward and take the role on, with perhaps more of the share of arranging things like the Blyton day, to ease the load on the SS Team would be a great first step to seeing more track action promoted within the Club.
KevanP
On 01/02/2023 at 12:41, mark78 said: So, having never been to a trackday I read the rules and they all seemed like good sense. Then I watched some footage. In the main it was what I had expected. Then I happened to stumble across other clips of some really moronic driving (Thankfully no 7 drivers!). I used to marshall years ago and couldn't get my head round some of of it not being flagged. So I guess my question is do events vary much, and if so are there particular organisers/circuits to avoid? This would be really helpful as I am hoping to get on track later this year (Finances permitting). Thanks for your feedback. I've done trackdays organised by MSV and also Opentrack - Both are well managed and they soon pull off the odd muppet as they did at Cadwell Park recently - 2 black flags and he was gone. I've only ever seen this done once in the track days I've done. Which shows the standard of driving is generally good and courteous. Brands is a great circuit but pretty pricey unless you do an evening session. The Essex lads generally frequent Snetterton, which is good to learn on and lots of grassy areas in case you need them 🙂. Generally a full day is quieter in the afternoon, so if your learning you can have a lot of good driving with fewer on the track. But go for it and have fun, its what ours cars are made for 🙂 1
