Phippsy Posted January 28, 2023 Posted January 28, 2023 I'm wanting to change my 7 in halogen to a 5 3/4 led setup.
AndrewBClarke Posted January 30, 2023 Posted January 30, 2023 Morning. I changed my 5 3/4 incandescent lights to 5 3/4 led. Chose chinesium Harley Davidson which had drl, dip and main. Wired the drl to the sidelight wires and the rest was simply plug and play. No problem with Mot even thou technically the drl lights are too bright for side lights. Much brighter and increased depth of light. Feel like I can also be seen more. From memory, the units were £70 each and have so far lasted 5 years. Andrew
Ian Kinder (Bagpuss) - Joint Peak District AO Posted January 30, 2023 Posted January 30, 2023 You'll need some 5 3/4" shells to like these perhaps- http://www.kitcardirect.co.uk/universal-5-75-single-headlight-shell-black.html

AndrewBClarke Posted February 1, 2023 Posted February 1, 2023 There are lots to choose from depending on what you want to achieve. I chose main, dipped and dlr. I wired the dlr to act as sidelights. You can get them to include indicators etc but I think the wiring is much more complicated with dlr controllers etc. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/385221502509?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=mhb98chyt7-&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=M-rZK5EHSJO&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY If you buy normal 5 3/4 shells they are designed for holding the old sealed beam unit in with retaining springs. The led version is thicker so you will need to ‘ease’ the retaining springs to allow them to fit. I don’t know about your wiring but I bought led lights that had the same plug so it was simple to plug it in with no alterations needed.
hammie Posted February 2, 2023 Posted February 2, 2023 I have just done the same. Ebay LED units were 25 each and new bowls from Car Builder solutions were about 70 each. They fitted perfectly with the spring retainer
