Richard Houlgate Posted November 24, 2022 Posted November 24, 2022 I want to install a small fuel tank for hill climbs and sprints, how many litres should it hold? Quote
Terry Everall Posted November 24, 2022 Posted November 24, 2022 Richard it depends a bit on how thirsty your engine is. I have had my tanks fabricated and they hold around 5 to 6 litres. Quote
stephenh Posted November 24, 2022 Posted November 24, 2022 I think the tank for my old sprint car (Duratec 2.0 ltr.) was about 10ltrs. Quote
Richard Houlgate Posted November 25, 2022 Author Posted November 25, 2022 Of course I've no idea how much fuel it consumes....should have measured it! But it's a 2.3 Duratec so it must be a lot. I certainly wouldn't use 20 litres at 2 days at Anglesey, so I think 10 litres would be enough for a day without the incessant topping up that some folk do. Quote
tkm_dave Posted November 25, 2022 Posted November 25, 2022 Top tip: Use a 2 gallon dry sump tank as your fuel tank. Nice and tall to naturally limit surge, plus baffled to help prevent surge even further in case you run pretty low because you get multiple re-runs etc. Quote
graham frankland Posted November 26, 2022 Posted November 26, 2022 A & H Brass will make a tank to meet your own design requirements. Mine is an adaption of one of there round tanks with mounting brackets in the required places and the flow and return connections positioned in the optimum places to make connections to the fuel pump and return easy! One other item to remember is the position of the filler cap which if it on the top of the tank is best positioned to the front of the tank to assist easy filling. Hope this helps Glutey Quote
Richard Houlgate Posted November 26, 2022 Author Posted November 26, 2022 Thanks for your replies. 10 litres sounds a good size. I have a mate who makes tanks and exhaust systems. He is near St Martins https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100048174624658 Quote
