First car was a Supersport, re painted in full Westfield style bright yellow!

- I like to think, when looking at the values of seventies/eighties Fords now, "if only I'd kept it", but in truth, it was from the era of British cars when as they hit 80/90000 miles, it was like a timer had gone off counting down the hours till it was only fit for the scrap yard! It didn't help that for five months, I used it to travel to and from central Germany a couple of times, commuting daily for a month, on the Autobahn between Mainz and Wiesbaden. Even the shell was feeling very tired and "loose" by the time I got back to the UK. On the long snowy trip back up the M1/6 the steering rack already worn over the last few weeks, got so bad, I couldn't actually steer out of the ruts in the snow in lane one, made by the trucks!  Seem to recall having to go up to at least the next junction before I could get off the M6!!

The guy I sold it too basically wanted it for the uprated gas dampers and springs, Janspeed exhaust and the uprated carb. I think every other part got scrapped!!

Sad but these days there seems no willingness to carry on a name. It will probably be replaced by something with a bland modern name.

I had over the years 4 or 5 and they were a hoot to drive. I had a standard first, then XR2 MK1 which I fitted a turbo kit to. Then a MK2 which I fitted a turbo kit to and finally a standard XR2. In between we had a Ghia and an odd one between cars.

They were relatively cheap handled well and were fun to drive

I used to like reading Fiesta as a teenager, lots of pretty girls in that mag.

Typical, a thread about the demise of a well loved car that a lot of members have owned has turned into something else by the debauched sense of humour of some of our members!

Used to 'drive' (read as steer) my gran's burgundy 1981 Mk1 1.1 Ghia up her driveway and into the garage as a 3/4 year old (whilst sitting on her knee). Did the same with my Grandpa's SD1 Vitesse too, much preferred the V8 as it had lighter steering.

I preferred Forum, for the interesting stories...

My dad read Health and Efficiency, i found them under his work bench.

As someone changed the subject to cars, the wife had a a mk1.   I rebuilt the whole car and fitted some posh seats from a mk2. sadly it was stolen a few weeks later, I must have made too good a job re building it.

The only brand new car I ever owned was a Mk2 1.6 diesel Fiesta. Loved it, and I will be sad to see the end of the model.
