At 6'6, I have to pick my cars carefully.   I once drove a Fiat 126, that had no starter motor, so you had to push it (not difficult considering how small it was) then leap in, put it in gear, and lift the clutch.   It always started though.

It finally met it's demise on a trip up to Corby from central London.   The exhaust manifold bolts used to loosen after a while, and on this occasion, the cylinder head melted.   I found a scrap yard, and swapped the head over for the return trip.   Guess what happened on the way back?

It was tiny, and if I hadn't been given the thing, I'd never have dreamt of owning one!

:p  :p  :p  :p  :p

Must add my 126 part to the story.

First car, was a beige 126 (nicknamed the Fiat Peanut).

Fun car to drive, 69mph max, hit 80 downhill once, and the distributer came apart. Instant stall. Good fun on the M1!

Put 60k on that little car, committed suicide in the best way.

Charging (!;) from the lights I put the foot down, a loud bang and the car was still (just) going on one cylinder (2 cylinder car).

It had managed to blow a smarkplug (still on the HT lead) out of the head, and take the thread with it.

Got £50 for it to be taken away.

Automatic gearchange sequence.........pull away......changes into 2nd at 10 mph........changes to 3rd at 15mph........changes to 4th at 20mph...........puffs and wheezes untill it starts to clear it's throat at 30mph :bangshead:  :bangshead:  :bangshead:  :bangshead:

Worst car for handling was our company's pool car Volvo 240 estate............Nasty :(  :(  :(

The sooner everyone realises vauxhall made one good car the better

The one that donated its engine to a fair few westies, the cavalier.  Repmobile it may have been, but still had some semblance of fun involved, better than a mundeo or vectra by far.  Reliable - mines been properly abused and still going strong....  I'll get another one when this one dies.

Finaly, some sense.  The sooner everyone realises vauxhall made one good car the better :p

I had a mk3 astra for 2.5 years... and it had some of the worst excuses for engineering on it I have ever seen in my life. Some of it was truly scary, things such as

1) Battery live to starter motor, 1/4" away from engine block and uninsulated

2) Front wishbone bolts also holding front subframe to body

3) Some strange electrical box behind the dashboard, not attached to anything, just left floating on its wiring

4) Alternator can't be removed from the enigne bay without taking most of the paint with it

But the most annoying thing on it was a 1 litre screen wash bottle, fine for a Westfield, but on a tin-top it last's about 2 minutes...

I had a 2 litre CDi a few years ago which had 215,000 miles on it when it finally died. Brilliant car :t-up:  :t-up:  :t-up:
