Leon B Posted February 24, 2004 Posted February 24, 2004 Do cycle wings need some sort of edging strip to get through SVA or was that a knightmare i had last night? Also while Im posting, I need an alternator by friday for a VX20XE, is there any others that I can pick up from my scrappies and fit? Quote
zvezdochka Posted February 24, 2004 Posted February 24, 2004 I think standard glassfibre westfield cycle wings are OK as they have a return edge. I have carbon effect (aka plastic) wings and needed to fit rubber edging, fixed underneath with electrical tape and removed after SVA. It all depends on whether the edge has radius less than 3mm. Englishman - Abroad Posted February 25, 2004 Posted February 25, 2004 Leon You do not need an alternator for the SVA My car passed Jan this year less an alternator. Charged battery before test and completed test with no problems. Quote
Leon B Posted February 25, 2004 Author Posted February 25, 2004 Hmmm do you think I'd be able to drive 80 miles there, do the test and drive 80 miles back though?? Quote
Matt Seabrook Posted February 25, 2004 Posted February 25, 2004 An injected car will flatten the battery quite quick as well Quote
Leon B Posted February 25, 2004 Author Posted February 25, 2004 Cheers Matt, didnt think id make the journey. So can I use another alternator or is the VX Astra/Cavalier the only one that fits? Quote
Matt Seabrook Posted February 25, 2004 Posted February 25, 2004 You should find an alternator from a lesser Vauxhall model would fit. Quote
Enterpryse Posted February 26, 2004 Posted February 26, 2004 Sorry if I've missed the point here but can you drive an un-registered un-SVA/MOT'd car on the road to the SVA centre?? Quote
neilwillis Posted February 26, 2004 Posted February 26, 2004 Yes, you can drive it to the SVA centre. Check with your insurers though, some companies cease cover the instant it fails, so the return journey won't necessarily be covered. Also, make sure you have all the documentation from the SVA centre handy. You can also drive it to the vehicle registration centre as long as you have a bona fide appointment for inspection there too. Quote
orange t Posted March 5, 2004 Posted March 5, 2004 past SVA today and I had to put edging (used 5mm went on easily) around both sides and the rear of my cycle wings. The inspector said that there is only a return on the front, which is acceptable. good luck orange t Quote
Leon B Posted March 6, 2004 Author Posted March 6, 2004 Had my SVA on thursday, failed, but not on the cycle wings, they were fine, guess it varies from centre to centre. Quote
Enterpryse Posted March 6, 2004 Posted March 6, 2004 Sorry to hear that matey. what did it fail on?? Stuart SCRATCH THAT QUESTION - JUST SEEN THE ENTRIES IN TECH FORUM. Quote
Pembroke Pat Posted March 7, 2004 Posted March 7, 2004 I used a bit of wet n dry on the front and rear arches and had no problem with the SVA inspector. Wet n dry gives a better finish than edging tape. Quote
