Kingster
When’s the ideal time to swap keepers on a car so you don’t pay tax twice in one month? 31st or 1st? Putting car in wife’s name so want to only pay once!

I didn't know the answer so went to see what the internet says , from reading various sites the concensus is the 31st, since that is the last full month you will have to pay for. "so if you sell your car on the first of the month then you still have to pay for that full month of road tax." https://www.thecarexpert.co.uk/what-happens-to-road-tax-sell-car/
corsechris
Last day of the month for minimum loss, but, beware cutting it too fine when surrendering any remaining tax, the online service closes at about 7pm IIRC. When I sold the Jeep, I didn’t cancel the tax until the chap buying had got home and let me know…by which time it was too late to terminate it, so I had to do it the following day, the 1st, which cost me a months tax of course. To his credit, the buyer paid me the months tax I’d lost, as the only reason I’d delayed cancelling was so he could get home with it still taxed so it didn’t ping any ANPR cameras. So, in your example, yes, last day of the month… but make sure not to leave it too late in the day. 1
Glen_I
Funnily enough I was thinking this only 3 days ago. Just chopped our 330D in for an M340i and I was so desperate to collect it that I picked it up on Thursday (28th). I know I've done myself no favours as I've effectively lost a month's road tax refund and paid a full month's for 3 days (I think??) We're on holiday from Tuesday and I wanted it at home before we went away so that I know there are no last minute sagas.
