She only just beat Corbyn in 2017 and she had lost any lustre she may have had by 2019. I wouldn't want to take that chance. Without the scandals would Johnson have been acceptable to the public at large? I'm not sure the public at large care that much, living as they do in a world of political and personal double standards with things like partygate. To continue with the biblical metaphor, let he who is without sin... plenty of us were, but plenty were disobeying the rules along with Johnson so he gets away with that. We haven't had the result of the cops looking at Starmer's own partygate issues yet lets not forget... But known sex offenders getting a pass through to very high office, let alone where he's policing other MP's, was never going to pass muster. As long as Starmers "partygate" investigation finds no wrongdoing on his part he'll be able to lose the next election so no worries. But if he does get found to have been breaching the rules he has committed to resign. Sometimes it's better the devil you know... And Boris has committed to abide by the rules (whatever they are) of a lame duck PM. And summer recess starts in a couple of weeks so not much gets done anyway. corsechris Posted July 8, 2022 Share Posted July 8, 2022 The other great myth this sort of situation brings out in spades is the double-whammy of 20/20 hindsight coupled with the fallacy that “things would have been better under a xxxxx government”. The latter point is an absolute and total failure of any kind of reasoning, yet seems to be trotted out ad nauseam by all sides, as well as being believed by many. Whilst a person is more than welcome to believe ‘things’ would have been better, there is simply no way to know that. By definition, it is unknowable. Well, unless one has access to a time machine and the entire multiverse of course. My opinion, overall, Boris didn’t do too bad a job given the way the world went in the past few years. There were a few times during the worst days of Covid where I wondered what kind of person would stay in the role of P.M. I’d have cut and run. And yes, I am well aware that my opinion is of no interest nor value to anyone else, but it's mine and I’m entitled to it.
