Scale modelling

Hi. I was wondering if anyone does any scale modelling  here?  It’s a hobby I had as a child and left behind around the age of 18. During lockdown I took it up again after watching some YouTube content.

currently I’m only doing 1:35 armour. Having fun though trying some of the more advanced techniques that you can learn online.

here’s some of my best efforts which have had a base I created. The others are just loose currently. A T35 in snow/winter and a kv2 in the wet.

Fantastic.

Used to as a teenager, but have t since. Split mainly between the 1/12 scale Tamiya race cars, then like you the big scale armour.

Used to play around al lot with the weathering/hyper realism techniques on the armour, with (artist) oil paint type washes etc, a little bit of air brushing, but not a lot as mine was a very cheap single action type, run off those air bottles from the hobby shop, that cost a fortune.

I remember having the patience to hand make scale ropes and cables, and even making up a load of scale barbed wire, once, for a diorama.

I quite recently completed a model of an Americas Cup J class racing yacht (the sort which raced for the cup in around 1934), which was quite fun. From memory it is scale 1/80th., and before anyone thinks that is small remember that a full size J class yacht is about 130 feet long, so the model is about 20" long and 28" tall from the top of the mast to the bottom of the keel. I built it from an Amati kit.

When I was young I was limited to Humbrol enamel paints and a brush. I have treat myself to a basic compressor airbrush and am using Tamiya acrylics mostly with some oils for the washes as you say. Mostly I just enjoy making stuff and it was relaxing during lockdown, and somewhat cheaper than lego (at least that's what I told the wife).

Try watching these, they are both car modelers, but the attention to detail is staggering. Way beyond what I can do.

I used to have Kylie and Kate Bush in the loft, but Kate was too dirty to bring down.
