Best time of the month to SORN.

Hi all,

I haven't sorned a car for years now and the last time was when it had to be done at the post office.

My health has significantly worsened in the last 4 weeks and I can't actually drive it anyway right now, so I see no point in paying Boris his £20 odd quid for nothing.

Cheers

Richard.

Sorry to hear that Richard, hope you're feeling better soon. It's not something I do regularly, but normally do it on line. You just need the info off the V5, though a V11 tax renewal reminder used to also have the right code on, to do it.

Thanks Dave, I am seeing a specialist next week so hope they find out why I am like this all the time these days, it may have links to mental stress as although I had issues before the recent passing of family , I have never had such added complications before, which currently leave me unable to sleep and the swelling of limbs to name a few. Not good at all. Anyway will pop over to the DVLA site now and see what needss doing.

I should have looked on the DVLA site first, my head is all over the place right now 🤪,

Anyway to answer my own question on the How To page on there it says

Choose when it starts

Immediately

Use the 11-digit number on your vehicle log book (V5C) to take the vehicle off the road immediately.

On the first day of next month

Use the 16-digit number on your vehicle tax reminder letter (V11) to take the vehicle off the road from the first day of next month. You can only use this number once.

When ever you SORN the car you'll get back what licence fee is remaining so don't think it matter much at what point in the month you do it....different story when you tax it again!

Wishing you all the best Richard. What’s the £20 odd that you pay?

That would be his monthly direct debit payments.
