Euan Hoosearmy Posted May 9, 2022 Posted May 9, 2022 I don't think this comes under technical... Being somewhat balding and pale skinned, does anyone know any way to keep some kind of sun protection on my head when driving? I'm tall too, so my head is in quite turbulent air. Had fun in the winter with the folded up bit of woolly hat being flipped over my eyes at 70mph! Don't really want to wear a bonnet! So is it either use a crash helmet or dip my head in a bucket of sunscreen before driving? Quote
Ian Kinder (Bagpuss) - Joint Peak District AO Posted May 9, 2022 Posted May 9, 2022 baseball cap on a retractable lanyard(as used for work security passes etc) works for me 99% of the time. Occasionally a gust can catch the beck of the cap, or if you tilt your head to drink etc. I'm aero screened too. 1 Quote
BobMet Posted May 9, 2022 Posted May 9, 2022 Flat cap with integral peak? Works for me - I'm 6 ft, car has Sport Turbo seats, normal height screen, lowered floors, sidescreens. Cap stays on and keeps sun out of my eyes. Quote
Robin Parker (Red Spider) - Yorkshire AO Posted May 9, 2022 Posted May 9, 2022 Lanyard attached to the harness bolts keeps mine from blowing away. It does sometimes come off, but it's firmly attached to the car. Quote

Labrat Posted May 9, 2022 Posted May 9, 2022 Used to use a trappers hat ('road kill') when it was cold. It was OK but had no peak so if the sun was low it could be tricky to see. I recently bought a peaked waterproof sailing hat (Musto) which has pull down protection for ears and neck and a draw string chin strap to hold it on your head. It works much better. I'm 6'4". 1 Quote
Robin Parker (Red Spider) - Yorkshire AO Posted May 9, 2022 Posted May 9, 2022 I also have a trappers hat, but it's too big for my head and stays still as I turn my head, which can be annoying at junctions. So I wear my WSCC beanie under it. 1 1 Quote
