I'me not a keeper but I can confirm by experience don't make loud banging noises around the hives or they attack! 1 Quote
McFrancis Posted April 25, 2022 Posted April 25, 2022 a quote from the radio show, I'm sorry I haven't a clue "Samantha has just started keeping bees, and already has three dozen or so. She says she's got an expert handler coming round to give a demonstration. He'll carefully take out her 38 bees... and soon have them flying round his head" 1 Quote

In the mysterious world of bee keeping, I reached the dizzy heights of 'inept'; I kept bees for a few years with varying amounts of success, but the wee bazzers all swarmed when I was dragged away on holiday in May one year. Then I discovered that spanners don't sting, and got stuck into my Westfield build. Fire away with the questions, and I'll share the depths (shallows) of my knowledge... Quote
Beaker_Bob Posted April 26, 2022 Posted April 26, 2022 I don't keep bee's myself having been stung one too many times (quite literally)! However, my father in law was a commercial bee keeper until he retired and sold up a few years ago. Most visits to their small holding involved sweating in a bee suit or laboring in the honey house. As others have said, fire through some questions and I'll answer what I can, failing that I can ask Doug! Quote
Euan Hoosearmy Posted April 26, 2022 Posted April 26, 2022 I used to keep bees, unfortunately I started to react to the stings so it became a bit dangerous for me.... Happy to answer questions though. Quote
TAFKARM Posted April 26, 2022 Posted April 26, 2022 When they move into a new hive, you need to throw them a house swarming party 1 Quote
