Have you thought about getting a high-torque starter that fits underneath the standard manifold? I'm using a high-torque one on my Xflow and it fits underneath the standard manifold with plenty of room.

Do you have any photo's , I have thought about getting one for ages now but I have a winged sump and the standard inertia one only just clears it, as the sump was built around what what there at the time.

I've got my old girl in the air at the moment for an oil change, I'll try and get underneath and get some pictures later (and include the part number of the starter too)
