Richard (OldStager)
One of the items I removed from the house clearance I was helping with, was a dehumidifier, I am somewhat shocked at how much water it collects in any 24 hour period ( although I have always known this is a damp house) , I also have a humidity meter , so my question is what levels do folks like to keep in range ?. The internet seems to either say 30 to 60% and others state 40 to 60, so what you you try and maintain? As I type this it says 44% Richard
TAFKARM
If the house isn’t completely sealed, you’re trying to dehumidify the world.
Richard (OldStager)
Given how much water I am collecting I think I must be 😁, my windows aren't steaming up anymore ( no comments please 😂)which was always an issue unless it was pretty warm outside. Stuart
Anything below 60 is fine I think. Sorry to hear of your tribulations Richard. Hope you're recovering OK now
Richard (OldStager)
Thanks Stuart, I have asthma anyway and it always gets bad over winter, so using this dehum has made a huge difference to my breathing to, no clue as to how much the electric is costing me, but I am now putting health before wealth (not always how it was before sadly) As far as 60% goes yes that does appear to be the upper most limit according to the internet, its sat at 46 right now, so I may just start experimenting with levels and see when my breathing gets bad and set that as my upper limit. I am ashamed to say this but when the humidity gauge was first placed in my bedroom it read 89 % - no wonder I have all sorts of ongoing health issues is it !!!. I did also with the dehum bring back one of these airclean fan things, from the Wirral its quite a large bulky affair and does work, it is supposed to remove allergens and purify the air, I thought I would try the dehum first though.
Mole
Running the dehumidifier also generates heat so its not a total waste of energy I had one in my flat many years ago that had poor ventilation and it stopped mould forming and really helped dry things out... Don't worry about small air leaks etc it will genuinely help dry things out especially after showers etc.. I was told to just keep the loo seat down!!
Richard (OldStager)
Thanks Mole, yes the heat from it is great, I haven't had to use my usual heaters at all, so a double win as far as I see it, removes water and heats the place in one 😀, I do have a water source in this room however - the dogs water bowl... I did think it may well empty this as well, and it may be doing that but there is no way it is doing that fast as I aways collect 5 times the bowl contents over 24 hours.
