snowy892
Hi I'm looking to tidy/update my garage, starting with the ceiling. Currently just standard wood rafters, I have looked at white PVC, any ideas? Photos would be great.
Mark Stanton
Pop some insulation in there between the rafters or ceiling joists, makes it so much more comfortable in the winter
tr1stan
Have you got any pictures of what your current setup looks like? Is there anything other than a roof above the garage? I'm looking to do mine soon and we have a bedroom above, so extra fire protection is required (fire-rated plasterboard, double laying normal plasterboard etc). Personally I'd do as Mark suggested and stick some Celotex insulation (or similar) between the rafters, plasterboard, paint black and stick as many LED strip-lights as you need to give you loads of light. The advertising gods have also been pouring these hex lighting systems down my throat since googling for inspiration (see image).
Glen_I
I done my ceiling in upvc tongue and groove, in fact I done the walls also. I was going to plaster and skim as I can skim it but I was drawn to the upvc for the reason that it can be wiped clean and easy to work with especially on your own! As previously mentioned I insulated between the joists and then fitted 4x twin 5ft led strip lights and its always nice and bright. My walls are also insulated and in the summer the temp never goes about 20 degrees and in the winter I've never seen it drop below 8 degrees. I'm not sure what the cladding costs now but no doubt alot more nowadays 🤨 You also have added benefit of upvc angled strips to tidy up edging/corners. My garage is approx 19x17ft. Not the best pic but you can get an idea of how it looks: 2

That's the stuff! Completely forgot to mention what is was🤪 Those lights were the old flourescent ones, I'm in the garage right now and I told a fib....the new ones aren't twin LED they're just a single sealed LED unit from Toolstation (7800lm, 4000k).
