Man On The Clapham Omnibus
If you can stand the inane drivel from Cherry whatshername and Greg Wallace's faux jollity, it might amuse you to watch Inside the Numatic Henry vacuum factory episode on iPlayer. Late on in the show there's a visit to a place where a prototype robotic road sweeping machine, Westfield AutoSweep, is being developed and trialled. It is a branch of our very own beloved Westfield and Westfield cars are seen in the visit footage. The Henry production is impressive too, with one disappointment - they buy in the motor from Italy. I served a five year engineering apprenticeship at Hoover Ltd in Perivale rather more years ago than I care to remember, and I recall being underwhelmed by the production facilities there in my naive ignorance, until some years later when I realised that Hoover made almost every single component in-house - motors included. Numatic's factory is little more than a modern injection moulding and assembly factory in comparison.
