McFrancis Posted March 7, 2022 Posted March 7, 2022 I don't know if anyone else has stumbled across this on the world's favourite video site, but they are quite interesting if you like watching engines being engineered. Here is one to get you started, but the guy has loads on his channel. 1 Quote
SootySport Posted March 7, 2022 Posted March 7, 2022 Yeh watch all these. Crank balancing was interesting, always wanted to know how it was done and now I know. Still don't know why knife edging is done on cranks, although they did show how it's done. Quote
corsechris Posted March 8, 2022 Posted March 8, 2022 I’ve watched a few, most of which seem to be about warranty claims of varying honesty. I try to catch “I do cars” on a Monday as he tends to do one engine teardown each week and posts his latest effort late Sunday Quote

The theory is that a normal crank hits the oil and aerates the oil. I would have thought on a dry sump car that would not be much of a problem. It does also lighten the crank 1 Quote
SootySport Posted March 9, 2022 Posted March 9, 2022 Ok, thought there was more to it. thanks Jeff. Quote
Nemesis Posted March 10, 2022 Posted March 10, 2022 Yeah I watch Barum on ufacetube.......Knife edging doesn't enter into it (apply some monty python dead parrot sketch there) I'm all for the almost 10 litres of 20/50 in my J E developments Baffled Trapdoor Sump with Windage tray to keep my crank V8 lubed...... no pornographic pun intended Quote

It’s insane just how much carnage a block can contain. The Barum engines is ok but like you said some of the warranty videos would put me off ever using them lol. My personal favourite was the crank in backwards! 1 Quote
