mark.anson Posted February 16, 2004 Posted February 16, 2004 I am struggling to find a 3.62 or 3.92 LSD locally (Blackpool area). My local Ford breakers only has one from a Cosworth and wants £190 for it. 1.What is the ratio on a Cossy LSD and is it suitable for a Westy.I am building it for road use initially but will be doing some track days.13" Wheels. 2.If Suitable is it too dear at £190. stu999 Posted February 16, 2004 Posted February 16, 2004 Gawd know what ratio is in it (I think there may be a couple of ratio's that it *could* be), but yes, they will fit the latest chassis. Some light alteration to the diff case webbing will more then likely be required though. However, they are substantially heavier, and for most applications at least, overkill. I would personally hold out for a 4x4 one if poss..... Quote
dave_graham Posted February 16, 2004 Posted February 16, 2004 The Cossie diff is 3.62, just like the 4x4 one. Bit of overkill, purely on the cost front. *anything* with a Cosworth badge on it instantly makes the asking price 5x the worth... You do get slightly beefier internals, and the benefit of bigger CV joints on the 2wd diff though Quote
scruffythefirst Posted February 17, 2004 Posted February 17, 2004 Cossie diffs generaly go at about £150 on passionford.com Scruffy Quote
mark.anson Posted February 17, 2004 Author Posted February 17, 2004 However, they are substantially heavier, and for most applications at least, overkill. Right, so the ratio is ok,its just that he,s asking a few quid too much. But how much heavier are we talking? Is the extra weight going to be in the diff itself or is it the bigger lobro joints . If its only going to be a couple of kgs I might go for it. Ok I might find one cheaper elswhere, but then I might have to pay postage or fuel to collect it.At least the breakers offer a guarantee, and hes local. If I go for it I will obviously need the bigger lobros off the donor car. Will everything else, ie stubshafts brakes etc have to come off the same car,or can they be taken from another car.The breakers is an off the shelf place so its not as simple as just getting the whole rear subframe. I used to be indecisive, but now Im not sure! Quote
scruffythefirst Posted February 17, 2004 Posted February 17, 2004 Cossie rear uprights are supposedly different from normal sierra ones, and the brakes will be bigger. May be worth holding out for a XR4x4 rear subframe, you should be able to pick up a whole xr4x4 (or at least the subframe) for around £190 give or take a few quid. The halfshafts are thicker too apparently, although you may be able to change the stub axels in the diff for the thinner type, although you may not be able to, or it might require some work by an experienced diff man. This might help, although you'll probably have to register, but its free so it's all good HTH Scruffy Quote
mark.anson Posted February 17, 2004 Author Posted February 17, 2004 Cheers scruffy, youve talked me into it.Guess ill have to be patient.Im not in any mad rush at the mo for the diff but im routing the brake pipes through the tunnel and was going to fit the diff to make sure they cleared the flange.!!!er the diff flange that is!
