Backo Posted October 19, 2021 Posted October 19, 2021 How does insurance claim work for a kit car? Having built everything myself, I'd rather fix it myself if I had an accident. Is there a policy that allows claiming parts cost in that case? If not, the only benefit from a fully comp insurance would be if the car was written off, right? Quote
Richard (OldStager) Posted October 19, 2021 Posted October 19, 2021 i am sure others have better info, but my only claim on the car was back in 2014 when at the time i was with 2gether, a car t boned me and i was given the option to repair the car myself then submit the receipts, or have someone else repair it. obviously the second option would cost more . but because at the time i had no spare cash to do the job myself - something i really wanted to do - the car ended up back at the factory, and was repaired to dare i say it better than it had been. i was concerned, given the factories estimate on repair costs the car would be written off, but it wasn't - thankfully. just my story on what happens with our cars. 1 Quote
pistonbroke Posted October 27, 2021 Posted October 27, 2021 Not tried it with cars but had my boat damaged in a collision to the tune of C £12000 . The insurers where quite happy to pay me to do the repairs myself . I just had to submit receipts for any costs involved , parts etc. Don't see why kit car insurance should be any different as long as you can undercut the proposed repairers estimate . You would be saving them money in the long run , you would prolly have to sign a waiver to say the settlement satisfactory and that it was the last and final claim . Quote
