Got something on the design bench at the moment for this at the moment. Just trying to find the right actuator so it can be flipped up and down from the cabin. All a bit Smokey Yunick.

All you need on that really is a spring from a motorcycle footpeg or rear brake or similar and it's a great thing. I'd buy one

@Pco yeah that’s the idea but got to source the correct spring etc and so the prototyping first. I simply won’t put anything on here that’s not fit for purpose.

Yeah was really good and surprisingly very good fuel economy when cruising made it back on a single tank !

Thanks, going to try Alan’s suggestion. If that doesn’t work I’ll try him.

If you want to send me a free one as a product tester 🤪

@Pco i appreciate the offer but until it’s been worked on and tested by me I won’t be in a position to beta test.

When I get some thing to that point I’ll have chat about what we can do.

Paul.

I would be really careful with this, having a 'automatic' moving plate via hinges or rubber bobbins is one thing - but to have the plate controlled from inside the car is another IMHO, should someone get pulled by a copper having a bad day it could be seen as an intentional device with intent to pervert the course of justice.

I know why you are doing this, and its great we have such inventive people on here, but for me a dash controlled front plate is a step too far.

There is an old thread on pistonheads about someone with something similar on a bike - he ended up in court.

Please be careful.

@OldStager I guess I am merely creating an aerodynamic device that redirects airflow. If someone wants to attach a number plate then I can’t really control that. However in the interests of the forum I won’t release this design here.

I didn't mean to pee on your bonfire there, but was concerned you may be creating something in all innocence that may come back to bite you. The motorist is such an easy target for the Police, do 35 in a 30 area and your done for it, have a drug dealer living opposite to you and reporting it every week and they do nothing!!!. IIRC on that Piston heads thread, someone said there is a company already making these, stating they are legal, well owning a TV is legal as well, but owning one and using it is a different matter ( without a licence).

@OldStager ha you would have to have a massive bladder to p***

on my bonfire 🔥 💦

I do take everyone’s concerns on here seriously so i don’t think I will post the 3D files for it here.

It is interesting that a knife manufacturer hasn’t yet been arrested for any of the stabings that sadly seem to happen on a daily basis.

My ducted V8 nosecone doesn't have the flat area to mount a plate (it's a vent instead), so I've hinged mine. However, I have a spring that keeps it vertical until it catches a speedbump or curb (kerb, kurb, gutter?).

You haven't heard me first thing in the morning, have you 😂.

The knife thing is exactly my point, I tend to use alloy plates now as should I misjudge nosing into a kerb, the worst it will do is bend it a bit, rather than my old plastic ones that just cracked and fell to bits.

I used small threaded anti vibration rubber mounts like this. Survived almost three years use so far.

@Alan France thanks for this advise. Just gotten round to getting it done and it works a treat.

the slight variation on it is that I have a male\female version of the rubber mount, that then has plastic screws on the number plate side. The idea being if I do clip something it should snap the screws rather than damage the fibreglass body… that’s the theory anyway. But there’s a fair amount of flex in the rubber mount, so fingers crossed should never be an issue.
