Mole Posted August 6, 2021 Posted August 6, 2021 My dad lives down a lane with about five houses and it does not look like he is ever going to get fibre broadband and his current speed is really low. Also of course he watching what he spends.. Is there an alternative way - like using a mobile network - for him to get a decent speed internet connection to his PC. He can now get a reasonable 4G signal.. From the financial side I have convinced him that he does not need his traditional phone line any more if there is a way to get on line and he can use his mobile for all calls etc Any ideas appreciated Thanks Quote
Blatman Posted August 6, 2021 Posted August 6, 2021 4G would be the easiest. The key issue is the data allowance and "fair use policy" of the chosen provider. To be fair unless unless 4K movies are being downloaded constantly I doubt the fair use would be an issue BUT do check the terms carefully. I have used D Link and Draytek 4G routers for exactly what you are looking for. The Drayteks are pricy. There may be 4g only options avilable from the nornal ISP's so it may be worth asking their sales departments if you can stand the hold music. With regards to the physical phone line I plan to keep mine. I will often divert my mobile to the landline when working from home (a lot of that these days) as I can use the better hands free speaker features of a normal phone and of course no chance of a dodgy signal from my end.
