The new Community Map is now installed and although it is still doing some processing in the background, it should have all the old data imported.  I encourage everyone to have a look and update their marker to a location near, but not on their actual address.  The map is after all visible to the outside world.

I wasn't on there! I can see others also are not.

I have now updated my location.

Is it not taking data from memberships??

Q - Is it going to be based on partial postcodes/towns? One of the features a lot of people used on the old map was to use a 'generic' rather than 'specific' location so giving members a good indication of their location but no more. Jon

If you've previously set a marker, then that stays the same.

If you haven't set a marker, then it will take the town/city value which should be nicely generic (unless you happen to live in the dead center of that town!).

You can set it to whatever you like though, just use the Update Location and start typing an address.

For me , I will put a postcode in 'somewhere' near my location not the actual first few parts of it. The way I would use this map is if I was out and about and had an issue , looking at the map would help me find the closest member who may be able to help me out. I agree also this should be opt-in ONLY.

Something I just discovered ( perhaps everyone knew but me 😀), it will only show you member locations if signed in as a member, good work @Quinten Uijldert - Webmaster, if you are not logged in all you see is Area club locations etc, I can now perhaps modify my location more accurately now.

It's worth noting that anyone who registers on the forums, has access to the map, so please do not be too precise :)

It’s an ancient first attempt at a map of Area meeting locations, used with an early 200’s version of the forum. Unfortunately it was also entirely manually done, and not linked in any meaningful database way to the forum software. I know I stopped updating the Area Links, (I was AO Rep at the time), when the first Forum integrated map came out

It still lives (but needs an update) on our website (not the forum) here.

I think @Captain Colonial set it up many moons ago. If I can be sent the latest AO and meet details, I'll have a go at updating if you'd like...?
