TAFKARM
I don’t see the point of these at all.

I don't quite get them either, Westi, Atom etc I get, large Super/Hyper cars I don't. Guess they are aimed at people with more money than they know what to do with. Nick Algar - Competition Secretary
I think in recent years we've seen the newly rich people asking for more and more exotic cars that just more and more ridiculous. That's what is going on here, it started with the Ferrari Monza then the rest just jumped on the bandwagon. Basing the cars on an existing mechanical platform meant they could make massive profits out of them. Hey 2 of the companies are British, most of the customers are overseas, I'm all for it, crack on. Personally I think they are nuts, :D
Richard (OldStager)
Another one for I don't get them either. If you want a drivers car then a cat 7, Westy , Atom and a host of others can provide that for you, but these cars that are capable of silly top speeds and cost the earth don't do it for me. I am left wondering that with onset of EV's , that perhaps all these supercar manufacturers are just creating their swansongs just because they can, if you are fortunate to be able to afford one then fine, but why?. Stuart
So you pay a small fortune for a car then get killed by a 150mph bee?
stephenh
Just to present the alternative viewpoint, what is the point of a "top of the range" Westfield or Caterham, or similar? There really isn't a difference in principle. They all make the ultimate trackday car, which is also road usable. So if I'm a billionaire (which I can assure you I'm not!) then if I'm a motorsport fan, why not buy an ultimate Aston Martin (or whatever) for my trackday fun? In the same wy, if I'm a sailing fan, why not pay £x,000,000 for an ultimate sailing yacht? No more (or less) daft than you on your more modest income/capital buying a Westerham for your trackday fun. Oh, and you avoid the bee by using a full face crash helmet, just the same as I used to use when I took my Westfield sprint car out on the public highway for any distance.
Richard (OldStager)
Fair points Stephen, but for me if I were to do a trackday, I would much rather, from a driving point of view, wish to be driving a car that was engaging and one that on the road driving at 50mph, is as thrilling as perhaps an Aston is at 150mph, I am sure they are huge fun, but only at much higher speeds and unless you are on a long straight or happen to live in Germany, you aren't going to be driving anywhere near is limits and for me that's a waste of a car. The money side of it is academic for me, it's about having fun legally, or as legal as you can get on the roads anyway.
fil46
All that top end cars are nice to look at But not practical if you are going to use it, the cost of brake pads etc and dealer service prices to keep it worth anything when you sell it 1000s for tyres and scared to crash it, give me a westy any day, if money was no object I would have a westy with a v10 judd engine

If money was no object then one could have every car on any list of "dream" cars, drive them all and pick the "best" one for themselves given that there is no right answer to what's "best". And if I had a Judd engine, it would go in an "old" open top LMP2 like a Zytek...
fil46
I know of a few people that have had the big fancy car and got rid as soon as it started costing money, they tend to be loaded because they don't waist it. nice choice for the Judd

If the prosepctive owner needs to think about ownership because of servicing costs, then money is an object and a barrier to ownership
