Sim racing - dipping my heel 'n' toe in!

I've been discussing Sim Racing with a colleague and my brother and I think I'm ready to have a go, which means buying some gear. I have a budget, a spare room and what I hope is an idea about requirements (yes I did a search...) and I'd appreciate some thoughts.

Games will be Assetto Corsa and Project Cars 2 (I think) to start with. I have had a look at the system requirements and I reckon I can build a PC with more than enough horsepower for about 500 quid. Screen will be around 50/55 inches and 4K, either a Samsung or LG. Nice second hand leather Chesterfield for when it's not my turn and a beer fridge. That's the easy stuff....

Rig - a GT RS6 with the free standing monitor mount so we can expand to three screens if we feel the need(!). We'll source our own seat...

Wheel motor - SimCube 2 Sport if we can't wait for the new Fanatec CS

Wheel - probably an OMP, nothng fancy, no need for buttons yet. I'm sure that will change 'cos we'll want paddles at some point. yes we'll need an adapter for the wheel motor.

Pedals - Heuskinveld Sprint

Shifter - Fanatec Clubsport

Occuclus Rift 2 or an S. Not sure on this one yet but I definitely want to try the VR experience.

So, does this look like a senseible starting point?

Have I missed anything?

Tin hat on...

Seems like a perfect set-up! I've done a little sim racing, but with only basic gear (a Logitech G920), and it is great fun! The only problem I have is I have to set up and take down my set up every time I use it, so it doesn't get used much. Would love to have a set-up like yours!

I'll be interested to see what you end up with, keep toying with the idea but haven't really got the space at the moment

That's already surpassing my hardware!

Nothing to disagree with on that list. Only curveball I'd add is that I went for an Obutto rig and use it as my work station and for flight sims also:

I'd love to know what they've done with the cables in those studio pictures though, as mine looks like leftover spaghetti!

Another difference to consider is rather than three monitors I've got a single 49" 32:9 monitor. Not quite as wide as a triple monitor setup, but the curve radius matches the distance I sit so it works ridiculously well

After I built my gaming PC Christmas 2019 I wanted to get into a bit of sim racing so I picked up a Logitech wheel, ordered a Valve Index VR for my 50th in June last year, waited months for it to be delivered and only become more frustrated at trying to get it all set up each time I want to use it. The VR fights with my graphics card and won’t pick it up, the Logitech software keeps messing the settings up, when the wheel doesn’t work and your putting the headset on and off trying to mess about it gets to a point where I pack the whole lot back up! I wanted a rig, but my daughter got into gaming so I now have to desks in the games room and a 3D printer so no more space now.

I have 3 27” monitors set up but get quite a frame rate drop, so for warzone I now only run one. This thread I’d of interest as it may inspire me to try the racing again.

You really should try Grand Prix Legends , the greatest race simm ever made . no need for huge £ outlay , all you need is a modestly fast CPU and a half decent GPU .  PLUS its FREE

I will try GP Legends again when I have the rig set up. According to sources the guy you now "curates" it works near me!

Nice looking rig. I hope mine ends up half as nice.

I bought a playseat challenge and have a thrust master tmx pro (I went second hand). It's for those without space it's like a posh camping chair that can be folded up with it all attached. It's comfy and sturdy and I put in the cupboard under the stairs when finished. Takes about 2 minutes to set up. If they are a faff you won't use it.

Xbox and play assetto competionzone and dirt rally 2.

Here's the seat, about 140 with Curry's at the mo, that's cheap just need a wheel to go with it
