I can find out about MOT history of my cars but how do i find out the registration address??

I think I might have shredded the wrong V5 but I've moved house so much in the last few years I cant remember if i've actually changed them or not?

I dont think thats available to the public.

Perhaps call DVLA for a duplicate V5?

Pretty sure you can ask the DVLA. Friend of mine owned a Mk1 Capri in the 80's and the current owner got in touch!!!

DVLA stopped that a few years ago because of GDPR :bangshead: same reason they now no longer put the previous keepers address on the V5.

Well this was about 6 months ago. There may be some other way to ask for the information.

Actually this might be better:

The law allows DVLA to release information from the vehicle register to the police and local authorities. Regulation 27 of the Road Vehicles (Registration and Licensing) Regulation 2002 also allows us to release data to private or public sector organisations and individuals providing they can demonstrate reasonable cause to have it. The release of information about vehicles and their keepers for such purposes is long established and was in place before DVLA existed. As the law allows the release of personal data we do not need the vehicle keeper’s consent to disclose their details.

And it's for his own vehicle. I doubt there are any GDPR issues for a car where the information is requested by the registered keeper.

If you read the link you posted there needs to be reasonable cause for them to release details of the owner. Personal research is not such a reason.

You can ask for details of another

vehicle’s registered keeper. You’ll need a ‘reasonable cause’, for example:

  • finding out who was responsible for an accident
  • tracing the registered keeper of an abandoned vehicle
  • tracing the registered keeper of a vehicle parked on private land
  • giving out parking tickets
  • giving out trespass charge notices
  • tracing people responsible for driving off without paying for goods and services
  • tracing people suspected of insurance fraud

If it wasn't still his car I'd agree that legitimate reasons might be difficult, but it is still his car unless I misundertand the question.

Not sure there are any GDPR isues if he still owns the car(s).

Shredding the wrong V5 by mistake I would have thought would be an OK reason. I bet he's not the first person to ever do that, to say nothing of documents lost in fires, floods and "the dog ate it"...

I was replying to the comment you made about your friend who had been contacted.

the DVLA in that instance should not have given out your friends address, not even to the current owner, there was a recent court case where someone was prosecuted in similar circumstances for obtaining details under false pretences using the V888.

for the OP it should be easy to obtain a replacement V5 either online or by filling in a V62 form.

Exactly, see post #2.

I'd be more worried if your driving licence wasn't up to date with your correct address.

given both V5s were at the same address and not at the new one i recon ive just not renewed it so i just filled out the form online to change the address using the 11 digit number which the system didnt seem to have an issue with so I assume its ok.

I only looked at them because of the thread about MOT and emissions to see what is written for mine
