Wheels and Tyres

Hello.  I'm collecting my Westie in three weeks time.  I've been researching wheel and tyre packages and need some guidance.  I've heard that OZ Superlegarras are the best wheels to go for in terms of weight.  Is this the case?  Does anyone have a photo of a Westie with these fitted?

What tyres should I go for in terms of size and type?

One last question - Who is the cheapest supplier of  wheels and tyres?

Would appreciate any advice.

before anyone tells you to start searching. The superleggs are indeed v light. 4.4 kg for a 7x15.

There has been a supply problem late 2003 but the 15 inchers are now coming through.

Tyres? Depends on what you wanna use the car for. Give us some more info and you'll get loads of opinions to make a choice on.

Best price? You'll have to do a bit of work here and ring round/ check internet to get best deal

Thanks Scott.

Thanks for your post.  I'm gonna use tha car mainly on road for weekend blasts.  I may end up doing the occasional Curborough day - I live 15 mins away. Whilst I want to only use the car only in the dry (Decided not to bother with weather gear), It needs to be able to cope with damp and occasional wet roads (for when I get caught out miles from home!;).  From previous posts, I understand that I need 7*15 wheels with ET35/38 offsets.  If this is the case, what tyre sizes do i need?  - I want them to look as imposing as possible!

I've just phoned my local Halfords who were doing 20% off all wheels and tyres.  The've told me that the offer finished last week -aggggggrr!!!!.  They reckon 4 Superleggera wheels and Hancock?-  (sounds iffy?) tyres will be £460.  If I go for Yokohama tyres they reckon it will be c£700.  Would appreciate any advice.

George Polley Motorsport.

13" x 6" mini light lookalikes about £65 each

185 70 13 Yoko 21R's £35 each [i think]

Dymags are the lightest and the most expensive

An extra £240 for Yokohama tyres seems outrageous to me. It's my personal opinion but I prefer the look of Westfields on 15's. I would go for the superleggs with Avon CR500 tyres in 195/45 15.

Richard.

(And I wouldn't use Hancook tyres if they were free)!

I'd go with 195-50-15's myself.....but other than that small difference, that looks like a good choice. The Avon's won't be cheap though......For a "budget" tyre, the Hankooks are OK, but as stated, George Polley is the place to get Yoko's (of any flavour) from......

Anthony. If you're set on 15" then you wont go wrong if you fit 195/50/15 on front and either 195/50/15 or 205/50/15 rear depending on how much power you've got.

If yokohama don't float your boat (some are good; some are not) you could look at likes of avon cr 28 and 28 sport  or toyo (proxes t1...A little hard for regular sprinting but fine on road). Bridgestone are also ok.

The list could go on. Ideally look for a reasonably soft tyre. will give more grip and as the car won't weigh anything like a tintop wear rate is acceptable.

Thanks.  I've just been in ntouch with another Halfords store and they say that thye can get me 5 Superlegerras with Toyo Proxies 15*7 -205/50s for £699.99 .  This seems too good to be true.  I'm keen to race there and get a deposit down but am confused as to the offset required.  I've searched the WSCC site and am now even more confused .  Can you offer any advice as to the offset I require-I'd also love to know what it all stands for.  Also, a friend of mine runs 205s on the front and back of his Westie - will 205s be ok for mine- I'll be running a 2.0L Duratec.

Would appreciate some guidance.

Thanks

Taffy.

Did we met at Shenstone a few months back?

Yeah the photo is my old flex - Quantum 582.  Got a 912 now - Sex machine!!!- It's stuck at Sittles at the moment as I had a take off moment last Sunday - Subsequently found lots of water in tank and carb bowls.hmmm?.- It coughed as I was taking off heading for the 400,000volt power lines and quary- Not good!- I decided to chop the power and put it back on the runway- thank god their runway is much longer than ours.  I've drained everthing (gave my mate 40 litres of unleaded FOC -(this made me cry) for his company mondeo) + took the opportunity of changing the oil, plugs, antifreeze etc - Just waiting for the bl**** wind to calm down so I can fly it back over the hedge to my club. he he.

Hence my keenness to sort out my wheels and tyres while I'm stuck in the house.

Hi Anthony

Im based at the Sittles (currently in Rossies hanger). Not flown for a few months now.

I know what you mean about the power lines! With all the water about I was always a bit nervous about drowning if i had a "Dead stick" when using 27.

What a great bunch of guys, do you recall the lady who wanted to fly starkers? That was my plane :D  :D

Let me know how you get on in the hunt for wheels cos Im still lookin (bl**** Ebay!;)
