PVC/Rubber matting on the garage floors

I see this has been debated quite a few times but they are quite old posts - ive a brand new garage and the builder has b*****red up the new concrete slab to the extent its not exactly even and its a bit rough - its 60m2!

Option 1 was levelling compound and paint but i really dont think any type of levelling compound will put up with the abuse of garage life for years and years

So im looking at going down the rubber/pvc matting option - has anyone else done this and has experience of what they are like after a few years - if so where did you get them from (also some are 7mm and some are 12mm etc)

One key point - I dont want them to move so they will need to be interlocking (rules out stable mats) and ill be getting the ramps where needed to

I bought from these over 15 years ago and it's still great. - Ecotile Mine are circa 7mm thick.

Axle stands mark them slightly but when you remove them the marks fade after a day or so.

much nicer/warmer to work on than concrete. More forgiving if you drop things onto it too.

fitted in 2005-

Easy to cut when you leave them in sunlight with a stanley knife.  Easy to keep clean just brush out and mop periodically.

I paid circa a £1K for approx 11M x 3.5M

You can get structural self levelling in either cement based or epoxy type. I have levelled up loads of concrete floors and personally rate the cement based materials as they work with the concrete and will last as long as the concrete itself as long as the surface is prepared properly.

If you speak to Dichem near Bracknell they will advise on product and application.

Rubber is good but I find the concrete tends to sweat underneath it and it the surface is bad it will just be transferred.

Sorry but I thought the number plate said something else at first glance.

Thanks Ian - that seemed expensive, I think Big Dug are coming in at about £1200ish for twice the area but I don’t know if the tiles vary from different suppliers?

No experience but mototile had a big display at stoneleigh 3 or 4 years back  and I was impressed with the company and quality of their tiles.

You could also consider a wooden floor by laying 8ftx4ftx18mm sheets.

That’s an interesting idea, what do the the gaps between the sheets look like after a bit of abuse?

I found Costco the cheapest place for tiles and they are delivered direct from the manufacturer, I think it may be ecotile.  They seem great so far and while they scuff no issues with jacking on them.

TVR owner recommended the Halfords stuff to me on Sunday. About £6.50 per m2 and 12mm thick

this is cheap. did he say if they are hard or the softer foam type mats? i got a set of the foam things from aldi, they were advertised as work out mats, and they were great to lie on but didnt take kindly to anything heavy. found that 4 and 2 tapes together and moved about where i wanted worked well

Not specifically. He did say the car leaves indents on them but they return to shape in a few hours.
